Tis what happens when I listen to my wife. We've been discussing the boy's start date for college, and for some reason SHE thought it was Labor Day weekend this weekend. I don't typically pay attention to when holidays like that actually are, so took her word for it until I posted that and realized it couldn't be right.

Apparently, he plans to rally in Springfield with his VP selection tomorrow.

If he can keep a lid on the announcement for the rest of today, he should be fine in terms of exposure.

His selection would be on the front page of all Sunday papers and one of the lead stories on all the political talk shows.

You know what... at this point, I like Hillary too although I'm sure Obama doesn't. Her as VP will unify the party. I read somewhere that almost 30% of undecided voters were former Hillary supporters. She is very influential.

I can't see him picking Hillary under any circumstances, not even to unite the party. An Obama presidency would be permanently undercut by having a former President serve as First Husband.

I may be wrong, but Biden seems like a big red herring to me. There's far too much dirt on him, he would immediately become a liability.

Anyone see where Limbaugh suggested that McCain pick Rick Santorum as his VP?

Of course he isn't going to pick Hillary. :jayzus:

    Bryce is a retard.

Is there a date that they have to have chosen a VP? I am slightly interested in who it will be and what impact it will have.

I don't see how anyone could pick Hillary as VP, and then be able to sleep, knowing her lust for power and only their own heartbeat between her and the Presidency.

Traditionally, a VP is announced before the convention so that things can proceed in an orderly fashion. Historically, a President and VP candidate weren't necessarily announced until it was decided at the convention.

Yeah, but there are a lot of downsides that come with a Hilary choice, or not enough upsides.

    1. For every person she would help bring back in the tent, there's probably at least one person she'd scare off.

    2. Selecting her somewhat undercuts the notion of him as a different politician.

    3. No one would be able to think that this would be anything but a political marriage of convenience.

    4. Her strongest constituencies are all in states like NY, IL and CA that Obama should win handily, and she doesn't bring anything to help win any state that Bush won in either of his elections.

    5. She does nothing to diminish the biggest knock on Obama, his lack of executive experience.

I think I would like to see him pick Richardson or that Kaine guy.

Yep, and that's before you factor in all the GOP voters who McCain can't excite to the polls but Hillary can.

Hillary on the ticket = net loss of votes for Obama

Obama will almost certainly hold all the Kerry states...unless he picks Hillary. Then he'll lose at least one, perhaps more.

While it's a good bet, there's also the issue of websites in another candidate's name by the campaign earlier this week. A female named Sedalia or something like that?

    Were'd ya here that?

No official announcement has been made, I just looked...so if it's really been leaked, Obama strategy of waiting until the absolute last minute may have backfired.

Eh, guess he plans to wait until the rally tomorrow.

Bayh...even some CNN folks today said he was kind "uninteresting".

    Big "meh".

I'll tell you what may backfire.

For a campaign that is under criticism of being nothing more than media hype and pop culture infatuation, it seems a bad move to have the announcement of your candidate for the Vice President of the United States, (a position that even Democrats acknowledge needs to have a bit of gravitas to balance out Obama's lack of experience) drag on like the two hour final episode of American Idol.

    Get on with it.

In addition, all McCain would have to do is run clips of her ripping on Obama and his policies, and say "Not even Obama's VP candidate believes in him. Why should you?".

So that takes out two of the candidates that could have made Obama look better.

Biden? Guy has a lot of baggage. Who else is left? Hillary? Apparently she's not it either. I'd laugh pretty hard if she was though.

A few others I can't remember right now.
