Ok... so I didn't gain the Freshman 15, and now that I'm a sophomore maybe I put on 5 pounds (I've been the same weight since high school, fluctuating back and forth 5 pounds or so).... I just know my metabolism isn't going to be able to take much more. SO, that being said, anyone wanna give me some preventative weight gain measures that aren't completely obvious? Also, some people I know eat whatever as long as it's within a certain calorie range. This can't exactly be healthy. Does anyone have a daily routine (i.e. eat a bagel for breakfast, sandwich for lunch, work out 30 min... etc) that has worked for them? I do want to lose weight, but I feel like since I'm at a normal weight it's harder than if I were overweight. If that makes sense.
If you're at a "normal weight," why do you want to lose weight? Reminds me of a rumor I heard at my university. Supposedly the cafeteria sprays the salad lettuce with lots of fatty butters and such so the obessive, anorexic girls don't become too skinny.
You're fine, but if you want to stay at your current weight, find 30 minutes on Saturday and on Sunday to work out a bit, and come over (SLEEPOVER YEAH!) to cook some stuff. We have a lot of healthy, quick, awesome recipes. ^_^
ok... I'm 135 and 5'2"... Maybe I just want to tone up, lol. I don't know. All I know is that all these girls over here in "Music City USA" ARE anorexic and it's making me feel abnormal because I'm a whole 35 pounds heavier than they are. I heard one girl say she would "kill herself" if she were 110 lbs. Also, mostly all of my family is overweight and I want to come up with a healthy diet and workout plan to prevent that from happening to me. So... like I said, what works for you?
I recommend eating a LOT actually, at least at meal time. Can't tell you how many people I see who eat really light during meals because they are trying to diet. Then they run out of energy during the day and eat candy bars and other small snacks because otherwise they can't focus/stay energized. Or they drink some ridiculous energy drink, or tons of coffee with sugar and stuff in it. Those "little" things are actually loaded with calories, but very little nutrition. A single candy bar has about 65% of the calories of an ENTIRE deep fat fried, battered chicken breast. Even if the meal isn't super healthy, it's better to eat a "real" meal than snacks any day.
Well it seems like the less time I have the more "snacks" I eat. Try to pack the calories in all at once in something not nutritious, and then not eat until dinnertime (i.e. wake up at 6, eat a bagel at 7, wait till 5 to eat a sandwich or something)...
I feel your pain on the busy schedule bit. It can be tough to get some decent food when you don't have any time during the day. I don't know that there is much that can be done about it besides maybe preparing a packed lunch in the morning or the day before. Personally, I don't have that sort of motivation / organization.
Eh. It's been said in about every thread here: -Drink lots of water 1/2 gallon or more. -Eat less more often. Decent rule of thumb is 5 "meals", one every 3 hours. Small breakfast, a snack of fruit, yogurt, nuts, or a power bar, small, healthy lunch, another snack, and a small dinner. -Get some exercise. At least walk for, say, 30 minutes a day. Or you could run 4-5 days a week. -Guys, build some muscle, because muscle burns calories even at rest. Women can't build as much muscle as men, so I don't know what to tell you, but some strength training sure can't hurt.
Hmm...1st year of college I lost weight...same w/ 1st year of law school. Now I'm fat...totally huge - like 155 lbs - my BMI is no longer classified as underweight. What should I do?
Ask your friendly neighborhood vegetarian. There are soooo many quick things that I can make up that are healthy and filling, so you don't snack throughout the day. And if you have to get something really quick, the only fast food I eat are bean burritos and cheesy fiesta potatoes from Taco Hell.
lol.... I eat taco bell all the time My friend works at Panera, so I get a free bagel from there every morning... which surprisingly is around 500 calories! So, there's about a thirdish of my daily caloric intake...
I'm usually five or six pounds heavier during the winter than I am during the summer. I put that down to more comfort foods and more hot chocolate. Doesn't bother me.
First off you have to start skipping that, but don't skip breakfast. Instant Oatmeal, the reduced sugar kind. That is the healthiest thing you can eat for breakfast. You'll take in 100 calories, it's healthy slow burning carbs. They will give you energy and kick your brain on for class. Next, you're gonna eat no less than 5 times a day, I actually recommend 6 on the following schedule, make adjustments where necessary: 8:00am - oatmeal 10:00am - apple/orange/some kind of fruit (not a banana, too much sugar) 12:00pm - sandwich, no chips, if you have to have a soda make it diet but water is best 2:00pm - protein bar/shake or beef jerky, just not a carb based snack 5:00pm - Dinner, chicken or fish and a vegetable of some kind. 8:00pm - apple/orange or tuna, just nothing with sugar and not chips or bread What I told you is the most important part of losing weight, it's all diet. Your total calories have to be less than you are burning per day, period. At 5'2" if you want to lose weight you're gonna have to eat 1000-1200 calories a day max. Also, 30 minutes on a treadmill is better for your body than elliptical or biking or crunches. When you're on the treadmill it's supposed to be hard, if you're not pushing yourself then your heart rate isn't up and you aren't burning the calories you need to burn. I've heard different philosophies about when to run, some say before breakfast, some say at night. I don't think it matters as long as you do it. If you actually do what I just told you for 6 weeks you'll lose 15 pounds or more. I did it, of course I weigh more than you naturally as a 6'0" male, but it took me from 194 to 163 in 6 weeks. I only ate 1500 calories a day for the entire 6 weeks, that was the hardest part. I also came out completely cut. Once my body was running like a metabolic machine I could eat whatever I wanted as long as I worked out and I was able to maintain the cut and add muscle mass. Good luck.
