    Looks like crap to me.

But on TMZ people are following that new kid who stars in it everywhere he goes. Fans are screaming his name, little girls are crying when he walks down the block. Cameramen are knocking themselves over to get pictures of the stars. And there's already talk of a Twilight II ???

The movie hasn't even opened yet !

    What gives ?

Me either really except a few commercials.

But people in LA are swarming all over these stars and following them around like its the biggest movie of the year.

They even followed them to Vegas.

That one guy nearly shut down an entrance to LAX with reporters mobbing him.

    I don't get it.

It's just the usual over marketing of a movie that usually by the time the film comes, I don't care to see it because I've been bombarded by all the advertising.

These were books that have a huge cult following. And it's about vampires, which bring out a certain...element of people.

It's 4 books, "The Twilight Series". It's basically a love story, with some bad ass action sequences, and vampires. All things I love.

So, I'll go see it. Not because of the people in it, because I think they could have picked a better Edward(the guy the girls are going crazy over) and I'm kind of worried that they are going to make it suck royally.

So, it's good reading, but I doubt anyone here besides the people in my age group will like it.

    Pretty much.

Someone has to make a novel/movie for those of us who are fuckin' sick to death of fuckin' vampires.

Hmmm... I was a goth when they first started. Won't deny an interest in vampires, but in a Lost Boys way, not an emo way. Not really finding this - or True Blood - that attractive.

I don't know what the big deal is, but several of my female students are really looking forward to this one. I heard it described as an "action chick flick."

This explains much. I saw a poster advertising the movie in Hot Topic, which virtually ensures it will reek of fail.

That's pretty much it. This movie is about a sensitive vampire that falls in love with a normal chick. Emos and goths love to take a basically dark and threatening concept and turn it into an estrogen laden sissy jerk. It's the price we've paid for suburbia.

I was in Hot Topic because I took my daughter there. But I have been there in the past as part of my job...I had to determine if the decibel level of their crappy noise they call music exceeds the inside of a 747 jet engine....results are pending.

    And Hot Topic!

 Another good topical (no pun) South Park! :techman:

But yeah, my 13yo daughter read the books...they are like uber popular with the tweenie girl crowd.

Something about lame fake-o "vamprires" that "sparkle" in sunlight and the woman who wrote the series is a *Mormon* and even people I know who like vampire stuff say that while the first book was okay - or even good - by the end it all read like shitty fanfic. (And all the sexual stuff had to be justified in complicated ways I guess since the author is an uber-fundie. The protagonist is a 108 yo virgin... I read a bit someplace where the actor playing the lead said he thought the way the main character was written in the books was like a pretty ridiculously fangirlish wet dream.)

Frankly, it all looks like shit to me. Not even interested in reading the books from the awful descriptions I heve heard...and the movie previews just look like cheap crap. Not that I imagine the books were all that great, but the film just looks as if it is a low budget flick without much thought to doing anything other than cashing in on the name, and certainly not transcending the source material.

I've seen some youtube vids of obsessed fangirls - most seem kind fugly and overweight, and they make Chris Crocker look downright sane by comparisan.

So lemme get this straight- a Mormon chick is writing vampire stories for teenage girls, only the vampires apparently aren't really vampires, and the protagonist is an immortal virgin? Then they make a movie out of it and Reese Witherspoon finally gets naked?

    :wtf: I am officially confused!

I don't know where that came from.

For one thing, she's not in this movie. Also, it's PG-13.

She got naked nine years ago, anyway, in Cruel Intentions.
