Was Kinchlow's coffee pot a radio to talk to the spymasters in England, or the speaker for the listening device hidden in the Hitler photo in Klink's office?
All the German I know I learned while watching "Hogan's Heroes". I wonder if there are any plans to do a new version of it?
Which, when you think about it, made no sense: why would the receiver in London need to be disguised?
No worries, HH got voted one of the tackiest shows (or similar) a few years back by Entertainment Weekly. Seems they found the idea of a comedy about Nazis appalling, not realizing that a good portion of the cast were Jews who'd fled the Nazis or had otherwise had firsthand experience of the evils of the Nazis.
If it got the movie treatment today, there'd have to be a moment at the end where Hogan (Ben Stiller) gives a serious speach about the true horrors of the Nazi regime, with pictures of dead babies.
Hasn't 'Allo, 'Allo ever made it over your side of the pond? It's a few years old now, but they did a reunion special only a year or so ago...
Well, that has lots of comic Nazis... in fact, I can't think of a single race that comes out of it well. The English are monoglot idiots who couldn't find their own arses with a map, the Nazis are all stupid and repressed, the Germans who aren't Nazis are either more stupid or gay, the Italians are irrelevant dandies, the French are venal and sex mad, and the Yanks don't even feature!
Honestly, I think you have to be a Brit. I'm always astonished when I hear that various European countries have bought that programme, because I really don't think it's the type of humour that travels... Some of the same people were responsible for Dad's Army, which also took the piss out of the Nazis. And the Brits, and just about everyone else involved in WWII...
I love 'Allo 'Allo, but then I also love Are You Being Served? One of the funniest bits was when Michelle would break into the stereotypical British talk to communicate with the British airmen. While Rene would complain he didn't know what they were saying because he didn't speak their language.
