Wow, I had no idea about his military service. I remember McMahon more for his performance as the host of the TV show "Star Search," the 80's precurser to American Idol.
I knew he was a Marine, but not WWII + Korea! Anyway, God just pulled up + is handing him a giant replica check as we speak! Another WWII vet who will probably die soon.... Andy Rooney from 60 Minutes. I'll give him 10 seconds before he starts in with "ever notice how the inside coffins are so fancy looking?"
Well at least the classic Tonight Show team is reunited in Heaven. As for the military service, yeah, he was a Marine. I guess I hadn't realized he was an aviator. Johnny was in the Air Force. I think he was an aviator as well.
Heheh. Now that the real thing is there, Phil Hartman doesn't have to stand in for him for the shows.
I've noticed you doing this for awhile now. Is your keyboard broke or are you to lazy too reach for the & key?
Yeah. Leno was lame, as is whoever it is doing now. Carson and McMahon WERE late night TV. Accept no substitutes.
Bitter douchebag that he is, one thing I'll give Letterman is that he has generally showed respect for the nobility. As remembrance of Johnny, he's used the "Tonite Show" theme instead of the "Late Show" theme and done the Carnac the Magnificent skit.
I grew up watching Johnny and Ed. When I was a kid, it was a treat to get to sit up on Friday nights when school was in session, and any night during summer vacation, and watch the Tonight Show. They even showed reruns on Saturday nights. This was before Saturday Night Live. Nobody but nobody has ever done it better than Johnny and Ed, and never will. They were a class act.
