Eek! The strayan guy killed Darth Vader! Is this gonna come back to bite him, or is House not that big on continuity?

Dr House is . . . hmm . . . interesting when he was trying to be nice to the one-arm guy. He sure did go through a lot of trouble just to keep living with Wilson in their one-bedroom apartment. :chris:

I only started watching it this year based on Hood's recommendations (aka House). I was so impressed that I went back and watched Seasons 1-5 - imo this show is a good cut above average tv. Good, consistent writing and characterization on top of everything else.

If the past is any guide, the aussie "Chase" will face some consequences of his murder. As will Foreman, the black dude. It's rare that something significant happens the implications of which are not followed up in later episode(s).

Oh, House ain't gay - his roomate Wilson is the closest thing to a best friend he's got. Actually, for me, House's relationship with Wilson and Cuddy (the cute head administrator chick with the swinging mammaries) is what has kept the show interesting in the later years. [and I'm pretty sure at least one member here feels the same way, based on a past House thread here.]

Over time you'll notice a fairly standard formula for a House episode, but they seem to go 'off-formula' at the beginning and end of each season. Probably they'll be back on formula a few episodes into the season.

What you saw with the Canadian Vietnam vet is probably House at his most charming. Nice guy, huh?

I did quite like that... "growth" and "understanding" and "empathy" for house still involves a syringe and ducttape :D

Oh, they should use that in their advertising! Great line!

We saw that the guy was an "ass" because he lived in pain but that's been a recurring theme attributing (or at least questioning) House's chronic leg pain to explain him having a similar attitude disorder (they're particularly fond of calling House an "ass" when he acts up). Just mentioning it because you sounded new to series.

So are they still relying heavily on the "patient vomits blood prior to commercial break" subplot?

The last one to vomit blood died at the hand of one team doctor, while another's slience after the fact made him complicit in the murder.

For the last episode I think they got that one out of the way with the first commercial break!

You're not the only one to think so.
Amazing. Who'da thought that quality sells? Pity that entertainment execs are too dim to realize this.

I love House. I've heard a few people who don't like it because of the character's attitude, but really, if I had some kind of illness that was that bad, I doubt I'd give a shit about the doc's attitude as long as he was a genius diagnostician...is that the right word?

I get a kick out of the "Let's throw everything at the patient, give him an MI, destroy his kidneys, damn near kill him, and finally by process of elimination figure out what's wrong with him because there's nothing else left to try, but not until at least one of us threatens to quit first" methodology.

True, the dialogue is more clever by half than most of what's on the tube, but any pretense that this isn't a surreal universe in which patients have the time, expendable income and platinum insurance coverage for unlimited testing has to be waived after the pilot episode (Wilson's pretending the patient is his cousin in order to get House to take her case had some plausibility).

Meh, if I didn't want to suspend my belief I'd watch reality TV.

But if I did that, then I'd have to kill everyone.

Oh, yeah, I still watch the show, but I always feel a little guilty after. ;) And if it went off the air, I wouldn't miss it.

Oh yeah, real world, House would have been fired and in jail sometime in the first season.

My wife and I like to chime in every week - we yell "He's siezing!" along with whichever doctor yells it (usually just before the third commercial).

I got tired of the formula in the mid seasons.
This one is actually getting my attention.

Season 4 he spent near half a season to pick a new team, which was fun.

Then there was that time his leg hurt and House took percodan and the med staff wondered whether it affected his judgment. Heh.

Olivia wilde is just too hot to not be one of the people he picked during that arc.

You should check out the reviews at Polite Dissent. They're done by a doctor who isn't afraid to point out that by injecting a patient with XX CCs of _______ they've just killed the patient.
There's a gal who comes into where I work who looks just like Olivia Wilde. Don't know if she's bi or not, but if I ever get the chance, I'm certainly going to do my best to find out.

IIRC, the hospital House and co work in is some sort of teaching/research thing that's supported by donations and foundations and suchlike. There's no bill. That's IIRC.

Princeton-Plainsboro, purportedly an adjunct to Princeton University. They have a free clinic, but House's services do come with a bill. They do, occasionally, dump things into the "research" or "charity" pile so the patients don't get charged, but the wealthy ones (or those that have insurance) have to pay (and probably through the nose, given the amount of tests/treatments/etc. that House dishes out each week).
