So here's the deal. The Dune Film debuted in 1984. However I clearly remember riding the bus home in... well had to be 1982... and some older kid on the bus was reading some kind of book with pictures of the movie. I want to say it was an entire book/magazine devoted to Dune filled with movie stills. But is that even possible? 2 years before the film came out? Is my memory that faulty? I could swear it happened.
Well according to wiki they had been trying to make a Dune movie since 1971 and in 1981 David Lynch was hired. It's possible they were looking at photos of mock ups and artist drawings of what things would look like.
