12 year old girl, arrested for writing on her desk at school: I guess she should be grateful she wasn't tased.
Yeah, when I was in infant school I got hauled over the coals for keeping a hopscotch tally on the exterior brick walls. With chalk. In rainy old England. Where was my fifteen minutes of fame? ETA: I still remember the rollocking I had: "This is sheer vandalism!"
Boggles my mind. We drew on our desks all the time, and the absolute worst thing that happened was a teacher made us stay after school and clean it off.
A lot of the desks I used in school had things carved into them. Especially the ones in the detention room.
Our school was so tough, the detention rooms had carved people in them. Our school was so tough, we carved grafitti into the teachers.
Ok, so everyone is rightfully piling on the school for this. That is as it should be. However, what about the fucking cop who slapped on the cuffs? See, this is why I could never be a cop. You can't tell me that guy really believed in the rightness of arresting that girl. Surely a rational human being would have laughed in the faces of the administrators.
Back in my day, if you damaged school property, you got sent to the principal's office and you got your ass busted. That simple. And that's the way we liked it!
