It comes out this Tuesday! Who is getting it? For myself, I will definitely be getting it, but most of Canada gets their shipments in on the 10th, and my Final Fantasy 14 Beta starts on the 11th! Holy crap, I might have to take a month off just to play these! And FINALLY, the male main characters get some facial hair!
This may be the first FF game since 11 that I don't bother buying. I own every other numbered FF game from 1 through 12 (not counting spin-offs and the like, but including X-2), but I just don't find these single player JRPGs fun anymore. Maybe I'll DL the trailer and see what's what and maybe I'll get interested again.
I'll be picking it up for the kiddo. She's working on XII now and suspect I'll get a request for this one soon enough.
Sooner than I thought, we picked it up today. She's tickled. I managed to get Gears of War and Left4Dead from her when she wanted to trade them in. L4D I've played through but not online and I haven't played GoW at all yet. She traded in enough to get damn near fifty bucks, I paid thirteen bucks over that for this one. All is well in Gamerland here.
I got into the Final Fantasy 14 alpha test, so I'll probably be playing that in a few days. Which means I have about 2 days to beat 13. I plan to wake up early tomorrow and give this a go.
After playing this game for several hours a few days ago, I quit! Well, ok, this decision isn't based on just my own play experience, but also the input of several RPG fanatics who I trust. The game is linear as all hell! You walk a single path and kill random things, until you get to the midpoint, in which a semi boss drops out of the sky. You then fight him and eventually get to the end boss, where the same thing happens. My cousin and I were talking about this, and this has to be the worst one ever, even surpassing FF9 on the all time worst Final Fantasy list! Graphics are top notch, but too many hours seem to be spent just going through the motions to advance the story. There is no sense of exploration or any noteworthy side quests or anything! Compare that with the huge amount to do in FF12, and I can say this game is a huge, huge disappointment! Final Score: D
I saw a friend play through this a couple weeks ago. It was interesting for the first few hours, but after a while it was just RUN RUN RUN with those SUPER LOUD FOOTSTEPS YOU CAN'T TURN OFF and then kill something. Rinse, repeat.
The Flash ads I've been seeing for this are rather droll. Something like 'Would you save a world . . . *dramatic pause and swoosh* . . . that doesn't want you in it?' Yeah, that concept isn't thousands of years old . . .
It took long enough, but I finally got to a point where I can explore and go on side quests. There's also a version of the Mark system from XII.
