By placing dark-skinned barbie dolls on sale. http://abcnews.go.com/Business/black-barbie-sold-white-barbie-walmart-store/story?id=10045008 The tone of this article implies that Wal-Mart has caused an unforgivable scandal. I bet if they put the white dolls on sale then ABC would be reporting that Wal-Mart is discriminating against blacks by charging them more.
So, if Wal*Mart keeps the price the same, at some point in the future they'd be throwing away a shitload of the damned things. Then someone would complain that Wal*Mart would rather throw black Barbies away than sell them...
No, clearly the lesson in this is that Wal Mart customers are RACIST for not buying black and white barbies in equal numbers. If you don't buy black barbie, you are a RACIST!!111
"I dream of a day when ALL dolls will be judged not by the color of their plastic, but by the content of their pricetags."
It wouldn't even surprise me if the pricing decision were made by a computer. I would expect Wal*Mart--which is known to gather tremendous amounts of statistics on their products and people's consumption of them--has systems that make these kinds of decisions autonomously.
So who's pissed this time? Whites for for being price gouged or Blacks for being played cheap? I really can't keep up anymore.
Slow news day. Gotta fill the space somehow. Infotainment. Not nearly as hilarious as Glenn Beck telling people to stop going to church...
Sounds good - does Walmart sell this drink? Maybe black Walmart employees will quit in protest - there goes 90 percent of their Georgia workforce. On the bright side, productivity will increase by 90 percent. I kid, I kid.........
As bogus as I find all this, ANYTIME somebody takes a swipe at Walmart, Beck smiles a little. No company in America treats its employees with less respect than Walmart.
Yes, and no. They have automated systems, but various levels of employees, from corporate on down to floor level, can set/change prices. Employees are also encouraged to find ways to increase sales of slow moving items. I can well imagine that in a more affluent area black Barbies would not be a fast seller, and cutting the price would be seen as a way to move inventory (which is what Wal-Mart really cares about).
