On kids?!? Oh, NO! If only there were some kind of adult figure who's responsibility it was to compensate for a child's lack of experience and good judgement.
Really, that's the goal of the coalition? Getting Ronald McDonald to retire? I claim bullshit. Sure calling for Ronald McDonald to retire seems innocuous at first but it won't end there. Next Hamburglar will be sent to rehab, term limits will force Mayor McCheese to step down, and what will become of Grimace? Making shakes is all he knows.
Another way that our country has come up with to punish success. And it's not the kids who make the decision on their food choices...it's their parents! If the parents are too stupid to feed their children healthy food instead of cheap fattening crap, how is that McDonald's fault?
Well, McDonalds is going to need to tell this coalition of Grundys to fuck off. I don't think they need to worry about a boycott, either. I likes me the occasional Big Mac.
Been a LONG time since I subjected myself to McDonald's. Perhaps this would make it a worthy cause....
Goddamnit! I miss Joe Camel! Even though I don't smoke, I enjoyed Joe Camel schwag. Spuds Mackenzie needs to bite these people on the ass.
Note to Corporate Accountability International: please fuck off and die in a raging fire. I've changed my lunch plans: I'm going to go have a Big Mac to show solidarity with the clown.
I don't eat at McDonalds or Burger King very often. I generally can't stand their burgers. I usually look for a little Mom and Pop restaurant for a good, old-fashioned hamburger.
I'd like to see this survey, because I highly doubt most Americans want to see an icon they grew up with and harkens back to their childhood fired and tossed aside because some parents fucking refuse to do their job. It must be worded in a very interesting way, or the population surveyed was heavily biased towards what they wanted to get this result.
Just as I thought. It's an online poll at a whackjob site...I don't see how they can possibly get away with spinning it as "most Americans" want this. Only people already predisposed to wanting Ronnie outta there would even see this poll! http://consumerist.com/2010/03/poll-should-ronald-mcdonald-retire.html
Had a Big Mac today, and it was everything I remembered. Maybe I'll have one next week, too. Thanks, Corporate Accountability International, for reminding me how much I like McDonalds...
Think about this: how would this or any other group force a business to retire something like this? How was Camel forced to give up Joe Camel? It wasn't from people boycotting the cigarettes, that's for sure. This group can try to talk people into boycotting McDonalds all they want, but that isn't going to really put any more noticeable pressure on them than say PETA protesting them. If this group is to get its way, it will require government intervention.
The next big nanny state intrusion is going to be food. Now that we have government thoroughly involved in our health care, they're going to want some input on any decisions we might make concerning our health, namely what we eat.
They've already started. In New York they are now trying to ban salt in restaurants. If you want salt you have to put it on the meal.
You know what they want is a completely electronic monetary system, your whole life tied to a system identification number so every activity, food and object you buy can be monitored, taxed and effect your universal healthcare contributions.
