Yah - they weren't in purgatory - the island years were real-life. Purgatory was the flash-sideways scenes in the final season, wherin the cast had to work out their personal demons before passing on.

The alternate endings were comedy skits on Jimmy Kimmel.

My question: why was newborn Aaron in purgatory with everyone else?

Well, everyone else looked the way they remembered each other (and probably reflects the mental image they had of themselves), but yeah. We know Aaron didn't die as an infant, so he should appear at least as old as he was the last time we saw him in the "real" timeline.

They all 'agreed'... they all 'made this place' ... to meet up. and that place was within a couple weeks of the plane landing LA had it not crashed. So everyone, regardless of how old they were at the time of their actual death, is the same age they would have been within a couple weeks of the crash - including Aaron.

Well, it sure must suck to be carried around as a spiritual "infant" because a bunch of people you barely remember (if at all) decided on conditions for your afterlife.

I'm sure for him, it was about 2 seconds.

So when exactly did they agree to make the place?

And why did they agree to make it into an alt-L.A. instead of an alt-Island or some other alt-location?

And why do they apparently have to be collectively ready to move on, instead of letting each individual be ready?

And why can't the Losties help each other to move on by just explaining to them, "This isn't real, I know you from an alternate reality, and we're in fact dead?"

I think I would have an easier time if the notion was that they were all drawn to this place someone created by some unknown something else, or if one of them, let's say Desmond or Jack, created the place for himself and stocked it with imaginary Losties until he was ready to move on.

Either of those would have better explained why some people weren't there and why this alt-reality was out of their control.

Though if that were the case, I would only have invited a select few of the womenfolk, and banned all clothing.

Jack's son was a manifestation of his father - to help him over his 'daddy' issues. Having a child of your own often helps one come to terms with their parents decisions.

I won't re-debate all my points that I already did on TBBS, but I will say that I loved the series and loved the finale.

If you want to give the series a first time looksie-by all means don't let a few who don't like it deter you from the journey. LOST was a weekly, 1 hour movie. Did the writers spell everything out? Nope...they beleived their audience was smart enough to figure out some of the mysteries themselves

One doesn't need to hit oneself on the hand with a hammer to know it will hurt. Experience tells us that it very likely will. It's pretty clear that the WTF factor was paramount in plot decisions, not any sort of plan.

But is Lost more guilty of that than say, the X-Files, or 24, or even the Star Trek series? No, yet all enjoyable TV.

Lindoff and Cuse had some broad strokes ideas in the first few seasons, then defined and re-defined every season (they've always been upfront about that). Im OK with that! Like I said, I can figure out all the mystery I need to enjoy the show, which I did (as I did the X-Fils and the various Star Trek series)

On the contrary, I think it is very much more guilty of that than the shows you mentioned. To me, LOST was mostly about the "shocking" moments or twists. These attract one's interest, but for me, that's because I expected that there was some sort of "rationale" behind them when in reality, their only purpose was to surprise you. Yes, the characters were interesting enough, but they too often acted inexplicably according to the needs of the plot. It's very much like that "ax cop" Internet phenomenon whereby the story is full of "cool" concepts and images that, say, a five-year-old would come up with, but with no rhyme or reason behind it other than it's "cool".

Yet many WTF moments were the character connections IMO, that were the best And, like I've stated, most of the other WTF moments, I had resolution to by the end of the series Of course the writiers were playing with us! I laughed just as much as I WTF'd
