Bullshit. The fault lies in the assumption that 1+2+3 applies to all gays, as was originally staed. If 1+2+3 exists then fair enough. But if someone is gay but only 1+2, or just 1 exists then how can they fulfill they stereotyoe and be included with everyone else. I think it would be inaccurate somewhat to accuse such people of "living the stereotype".
I'm probably just messed up in the head, but I am pretty much the opposite of what is acceptable. With strangers and just aquantiances I make a conscience effort not to use any insulting language but with friends I can be quite vulgar. As an outsider just listening in I'm sure it comes off as quite insulting. But in my mind it is actually a statement of friendship and respect. To my warped brain if I DIDN'T take the opportunity to throw out a great zinger when it presents itself it's almost as if I am saying 'I don't think you are mentally capable, or are too wrapped up in yourself, to handle a joke at your expense.' And yet beside my generally insulting attitude, I've had one of my soldiers trust me enough to put his career on the line by coming out to me, and a black friend call me up to invite me and wife to his BBQ this weekend. *shrug*
Oh Herpy! Haven't thought of him in a while. Also9, as Vignette pointed out, there's MrsA if you are counting lesbians (assuming she's gone past Bi) and she mentioned shakes but i was unaware that shakes was any more than, at most, bi.
AFAIK the openly gay members here are Soma, Beck, Lethesoda, Herpetologist, and Eminence. There are probably others I'm not aware of. And enlisted person is in denial, IMHO.
But if you throw the stereotype at them, how do you know they're not living the stereotype? You just stereotyped them!
Beck is gay as well? Wow, they're like snakes in the grass around here......or perhaps that should be snakes outside of the grass.......
Yes, it would be -- but you're still missing the point. Stereotypes arise through extended observation of a group. Stereotype markers are attached to defining characteristics of the group -- which means that any given individual who self-identifies with the group is not only identifying with the group but, to some extent, the stereotype as well. The characteristics by which members of a group identify other members of the group they're not personally acquainted with are the same characteristics by which outsiders identify the group as a whole. Again, the fact that not every single member of the group, ever, displays those markers is meaningless -- those markers accurately indicate membership in the group enough of the time to be generally accurate. Taken collectively, those markers are the stereotype. The only kind of correct stereotypes aren't is politically correct. Don't care.
Pretty much like Anc says. Generally if I use it, its to describe a thing (Twilight was so gay) or to bust the balls of a friend. But to use it as a slur? Why? It's just not my thing?
Really don't know what EC was thinking of, but i can't recall ever having her a bi fem called a faggot (hell, now that i mention it, never heard the term applied to lesbians either which is probably why i didn't think of listing MrsA in the first place)
The derogatory term for lesbians would be, 'dykes'. Probably comes down from the tale of the Dutch boy who put his finger in the dyke. Or some shit.
Do you even pretend to pay attention to anyone on this board? It's not like they are hiding it. Fuck, they talk about it enough that you'd know.
Same here. Especially at work. Too dangerous to not do otherwise. Same here. If someone throws an easy pitch my way and I don't go for a home run I'm going to be annoyed. Did you drink any tea?
Am I the only person who read the thread title like a punch line to a raunchy joke? As in :The fag's OK but the nigger's gotta go." Seriously, I'm guilty of this and I certainly don't mean any malice towards anyone. I'll try to do better.
And honestly, I don't care..." My private circle knows, most people at work know, and some family know (though Mom thinks I'm possessed or something) and the rest, well if they read my facebook, they ought to know by now, but no one has tossed words in my face save for like one person, and one more behind my back. And even then, it's their problem not mine. I don't wear it on my sleeve. To quote (someone whose name escapes me), "my life is largely an open book, just don't expect me to read it to you." If you have questions, ask.
Ok, now for a take on "fag" vs. "nigger." Why do people throw fag around but not nigger. Frankly it goes back to P.C. which began in I'd say the late 60s, early 70s...thereabout. When the "Civil Rights mainstream" came into the foray and people had to face it, all of a sudden the "traditional" slang terms like nigger were forbidden. And this was further emphasized in schools among young people. Gays, OTOH were not really part of the initial P.C. platform. Hell, when Kennedy was shot, the term GAY meant something totally different than it did today, faggot was "fairy" "queer" "Aunt Nancy" -(that's going waaaay back), but although society came to accept black people, it's been much more reserved, and much more restrained about the tolerance of gay people... So, the no-no knee jerk reaction associated with "nigger" was never applied to gays and words like the above and "faggot." The P.C. people hate that now, but it's true, like it or not.
I think most of us crackas would mind the one-armed curry farter so much if he wouldn't pick on the faggots and niggers all the time.
A fag and a nigger walk into a bar. They each order a beer. The barman pours the fag his beer, and immediately the fag whips out his dick, dips it in the glass and drinks his beer by sucking it up through his dick, like a straw. The barman's amazed. "Holy shit, how did you do that?! That's the best bar trick I've ever seen!" The nigger eyes the tap behind the bar and says, "Shit, white boy, you ain't seen nothin'! Watch this!"
LOL While not so much in English, in Italian and I think in German, the term faggot still means bassoon in music; it still does get used in English as slang for cigarettes on occasion. So while it is meant as slang for gay in English, it does manage to hold on to its previous meanings.
Clearly El Chup has come to terms with his homosexuality and this thread was a subtle troll so he could find out who he could engage in dirty chat with.
