I could go into a lot about how turd covered student unions in canada are, but here is something small that is just unbelievably stupid. U of O student union is now being sued by their students over bus passes because they stupidly decided it should be mandatory. http://www.ottawacitizen.com/news/students take Pass court/3943235/story.html
You know how much shit US students pay for that they never use? Activity fees, sports fees, technology fees, tranist fees, student loan processing fees, fee processing fees, parking fees, so on and so on. Other than football games and shit I had to do for ROTC, I never went to a single sporting event, but I still had to pay for them. (Luckily, I went to a school where I didn't even have to compete to get tickets. We were guaranteed a ticket, mistly because our teams uniformly sucked so nobdy ever went to see them.)
I have a U-Pass. It's fucking awesome. I don't see why they're bitching about this, since students already pay a bunch of other fees that cover things they might never use. This one is at least useful to pretty much everyone. Especially the "poor students" they claim to be speaking up for.
I take that back. I did go to a swim meet once, mostly so I could hook up with one of the girls on the swim team. We fucked in the sauna.
They bitch about everything. And we have to pay those activity fees as well. This though, this they can change. That's why it's being bitched about. I don't care for a U-Pass, since I can walk everywhere, and I don't care for all the bullshit fees I'm paying to the union, what the FUCK do I need to be a member of the Canadian Federation of Students for
Man, off-topic, "The Canadian Federation of..." is a great start. "...Students" is kind of anticlimactic. "The Canadian Federation of Kilted Yaksmen"? Not bad, but there's gotta be something better.
That's dangerous conservative Tea Partier libertarian type talk there. You start out asking why you should be forced to join the student union next you'll be wondering why you should be forced to pay for your neighbor's healthcare. And that'll get ya' serious jail time in Canada. :smoking:
