I made a claim in response to a comment in the DADT thread, and I want to test my claim.

If I do this right there will be a poll, with open voting (i.e. we can see who votes how) and it's for veterans only, non-vet votes will be disallowed in the results.

    three choices:

    1. It is right and proper that DADT should be repealed and I'm confident that the services will adjust fine. This will be the "Yes, I'm glad it was repealed" option.

    2. It was a bad idea, and unit cohesion and effectiveness will suffer greatly which is too high a price to pay for a social issue. Ths is the "No, I oppose the repeal"

    3. I have no strong feelings either way.

    Poll forthcoming!

How are you going to determine whether or not a voter is a vet?

So...not really for newcomers, vet or not?

And by "vet", do you mean anyone who's served in the military, or only those who've seen combat?

Veterans will inevitably have mentioned it in the past. If someone who claims it looks suspicious, the collective memory of the board will out them.

Not necessarily: not all vets like to talk about their experiences, and newcomers will have nothing to be referenced by the "collective memory".

(un)Fortunately, newcomers are not an issue around here. I think you're the only newbie here right now. If I've missed any, well, they gotta post more. We just don't get a lot of new people

Tripartisan, you could just say, "Oh hey, I'm a vet. I was in the Coast Guard from 1822 to 2047" and hope that people are forgiving enough to at least give you the benefit of the doubt.

All this worrying about "how will you know who's a vet" is kinda meaningless if you haven't done at least that.

The only little known poster who's voted is ancharbro (10 posts since 2008) so i think we'll worry about false claims when they arise.

Right now the main one to question is Faceman who, i assume, was voting just to prove he could.

Man, they should have a reenactment free-for-all. Come as whatever--stormtroopers, Nazis, Master Chief from Halo, Roman Centurions, Cylon Centurions, Spartans. That would be AWESOME. :bittersweet:
