What do you think the fallout will be? The fallout from 9/11 brought us two wars, the PATRIOT Act, Homeland Security and a bunch of dumbass airline security rules among other things. While I'm in no way comparing the Giffords shooting to 9/11, I'm simply trying to point out that governments typically overreact to tragedies in order to make the [-]sheep[/-] voters feel like something's being done. Currently, there is no security for Senators or Members of Congress outside the Hill. Given recent events, do you foresee that changing?
No getting near them without a body cavity search. 24/7 security to keep them away from the people they represent. No more rubbing elbows with the serfs on airlines and trains. Look for AF jets to take them everywhere. More gun control.
I foresee a Time magazine cover with a picture of the gun used in the shooting, carefully photographed to appear evil, with the bold red headline "Isn't it finally time to ban guns!?!?!111" In the article, I expect to find at least ten errors about how guns work and the phrase "assault pistol" at least twice. And of course, much hyperbole about Arizona's "total lack of common sense gun laws."
May be more gun control , maybe not. I do see sensationalism about guns and attempt to ban them. But I don't think it will fly. Then again I am thinking there will be a revamping of the laws regarding the mentally ill.
Probably greater security for elected officials. Hopefully less rhetoric about "don't retreat, reload" and "Second Amendment remedies." Not to say that nonsense contriubted to the attack, but you can't go around making allusions to shooting politicians after a politician and a whole bunch of other people were shot.
I'm sure the Obama administration will use this as a tool to go after more republicans and any ideas that don't agree with them. They already tried to blame the Tea party for this. Why not some common sense in this whole thing. Instead of doing it in front of a supermarket, why not do it in a secure facility with a regular press conference?
"They" didn't blame the Tea Party. Certain individuals did. And yes, I'm sure more Congresspersons will start holding meet-and-greet events with their constituents in a secure facility.
Oh, this is just so typical of the talk of a real American traitor that got real Americans killed. She "tweeted this" http://newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppard/2011/01/08/jane-fonda-blames-giffords-shooting-sarah-palin-glenn-beck-and-tea-pa
I'm guessing there won't be anything real coming out of this. There will be some talking heads throwing around talking points on both sides then the short memory span of the American sheeple will kick in and they'll be back at Walmart and this incident will be completely forgotten.
Who gives a shit what Jane Fonda has to say? She has just as much a right to express her opinion as anyone else.
Surely their will be more to it than that, I want to see some raunchy love letter to Jody Foster or something
My girlfriend who drives a Honda used to play workout tapes by Fonda. But Fonda ain't got a motor in the back of her Honda. My anaconda don't. want. none, unless you got, buns, hun!
Eh, its just that little thing that her actions got American troops killed in Vietnam. I don't think she has the right to breath air, much less give an opinion.
Sarah Palin has hastily edited at least one website and I expect that she and other leading Republicans will embrace pacifism and will not be seen brandishing firearms for quite some time, not even on reality shows.
I don't think her shooting is going to cause as big of fallout as the greater fallout already going on, which likely contributed to her shooting. If anything, we're gonna see alot more of this shit along with car bombings, and God knows what else. When it's over I suspect that Paris and its problem with the immigrants along with the riots in Athens will look like a sunny day for whoever hasn't bailed Capitol Hill.
I predict WF will spend more time obsessing about what kind of weapon was used and how "the media always gets it wrong" than they will giving even a moment of thought about how to prevent unstable people from purchasing and conceal-carrying any tool whose sole purpose is to fire projectiles, preferably quickly.
More than likely true. I have never seen a more partisan atmosphere than the one the Obama Administration and their socialist agenda has created. He seems hell bent on bankrupting the nation.
You just know that's true. Anything which could remotely be construed as condoning violence will be erased even if the shit bags actually said it. There will be a rush to rewrite history. Note, I'm not saying that conclusively did motivated the shooter but there will most certainly be a huge back tracking among the "if we lose at the ballot box, we'll win at the bullet box" nut jobs. I can't say that's a bad thing other that they're backing away from their endorsements to violence but I do think the attempted whitewash, which is no doubt already under way, is a bad thing. The people should know what elected officials really said.
I predict you will continue to make classless posts and you continue to sink to enlisted person-levels of idiocy.
I'm torn. On one hand I think garament was right but on the other hand it was classless. To top it off Bulldog called EP an idiot which I can always agree with. Damn, this is a difficult.
Since the News has pulled up Palin's Target picture and Gifford's reply that such things may incite repercussions, I see that politicians will use this as an excuse to censor the internet. Their reasons will use the old example of free speech, you can't yell "fire" in a crowded movie theater. Like wise, you will no longer be able to tell people that they should be shot on the internet. I see a new federal internet security department.
Reagan and Brady got shot, and we got slapped with the Brady Bill. I guaruntee this is going to cause even more infringements on our 2nd Amendment rights.
Since the shooter was apparently a pro-communist leftist, I'd guess the Republicans ain't going to do a thing... Except maybe exploit the fact that the shooter was forced to retreat by a citizen carrying his own handgun.
That's 'cause it's insane. He had a pistol with a single extended clip. He shot everything he had. That's why he stopped shooting.
