Personally, if they ever make a new Star Trek series, it would be fine with me if they shunted the Klingons, Romulans and Vulcans to the side and barely mentioned them again.

The Klingons especially. The Romulans might be tolerable if they were retconned to reflect writer Diane Duane's take on them rather than being "alien Romans".

So you want ST:TNG Season 1 and Season 2 (with the exception of Worf).

    No thanks.

    No.

    Be reasonable.

The Romulans & Klingons were featured in both the first two seasons of ST:TNG

Being as canon has them on the border of Federation space, that may be hard to do. I sure could go for some political intrigue a la STVI, though. Goddam am I'm getting tired of pew pew.

But that sure as shit ain't gonna happen with J.J. "DYN-O-MITE" Abrams.

It's hard to accept the Enterprise being on the edge of known space when every week they run into the same people. If the premise of Star trek was the ship running routine missions to colonies, showing the flag, and every now and then exploring that would be one thing, but it was supposed to be exploring. It just evolved into running routine missions.

I am way more unhappy with how the Klingons changed from a military dictatorship to "Rarrrrwwww Me Klingon! Honor!" barbarians. They were far more interesting the way they were written up in FASA's STRPG, which came entirely from John M. Ford's take on them.

I am tired of the Kitchens.

Every episode they just show up and complain. There is never any originality.

I blame Roddenberry, Berman, Braga, Abrahms and Obama.

Anyone else tired of Dayton obsessing over a single Sci-Fi franchise, when there are SO MANY other topics to discuss?

Well, the first flick killed off the canonite bullshit, I just wish the second one would hurry up, and kill off more fanboy shit.

    I blame Abrams.

So to recap: You don't like the Enterprise, you want tons of space battles, and you don't want any Klingons, Romulans, or Vulcans?

I say again, have you considered Battlestar Galactica?

John M. Ford wrote the 'definitive' version of the Klingon race in my book. He actually gave them a culture and a heritage unique to themselves, and the Komerex Zha explained their inherent backstabbiness.

I also like the old FASA maps which sort of explained how Starfleet was exploring as well as having the Roms and Klingons on the frontier- the treaty exploration territory, which could be likened to a vast expanse of wilderness frontier before you got to Klingon/Romulan territory, and the Triangle.

Actually, the FASA maps borrowed the TET concept from the original tech manual, if I'm not mistaken.

Side note- Dayton must really be missing TBBS with all the Trek threads he's starting here. Sorry if we're just not inclined to get as pissy about every little thing.

    Face it.

Star Trek will never in your lifetime be what you want it to be.

Diane Duane? Do you think future Trek producers are gonna have the slightest idea who that is?

I can easily predict that you will not be happy with any new Trek movies or shows that come out in the near future.

So you might as well just skip watching any new Treks and stick with your 30 year old tech manuals and novels.

    Save yourself the trouble.

Trek, as a cultural phenomenon, is dead. Done. Over. Fini. Caput. The train has left the station.

The only new Trek you will get from now on will be one, maybe two more light action movies that are as thought-provoking as pouring salt on a slug and giggling while it bubbles.

Paramount no longer gives a fuck.

The public no longer gives a fuck.

I no longer give a fuck.

The only person who gives a fuck is Dayton, but we don't give a fuck about his opinions.

Yeah, Trek seems to have pretty much run its course. Aside from some rabid fans of DS9, it doesn't appear to have truly outlived the original show, cast, and crew. Maybe that's as it should be.

I think we're at the point that Trek needs to lie fallow for 20 years or so and then reboot it on something like HBO or Showtime or AMC where the network will support it and nurture it. Throw out everything but Kirk, Spock, and McCoy. Put it on the Enterprise. Take chances. Spit on our pre-conceived notions about the Klingons and Romulans and whatnot.

I'd be afraid to say I was tired of the Romulans, Klingons and Vulcans, 'cuase I'd be afraid that would lead to the parade of assinine forehead aliens we got every week for the combined 25 seasons of the four modern trek shows!

Some of us need to remember we're in Media Central, not the Red Room.

That said, leaving the Klingons, Vulcans, and Romulans in the background for a while would be cool. Some new interesting aliens . . . with CGI you could do exotic ones like the Skorr from TAS or some such . . . but yeah, Trek needs to get away from space battles and standard bad guys and get back to the sense of wonder and discovery. "To boldly go" and all that.

A group of Feringi, maybe some post VOY Borg, a couple of Pakleds, and a Odo's evil cousin.

Also, throw in the Suliban and some evil space Nazis.

I call it Star Trek: Disaster!

A Horta armada? Sounds like a Mexican cocktail.

[sung to the tune of 'That's amore']
    When new tunnels appear
    And you're stricken with fear
    That's a horta

When your guys start to fry
Like they've been dipped in lye
    That's a horta

    Men will scream, scream-a-dinga-ding scream-a-dinga-ding...

    Mmmm... Mexican...

There's a sit-down Mexican place near work that I've gone to. Then there's a local fast food place--right next to a Taco Bell. I've never been to it.

I always feel a little guilty when I drive right past it to get Taco Bell.

I think I'll give the place a try.

Since neither the Romulans nor the Vulcans have really been explored all that much, no, I can't say I'm that tired of them. When it comes to the Klingons, what I'm tired of are is the more modern cliched version of the moronic savages.

maybe you can have a trek series not with the romulans etc maybe use the tholians or gorn. can have a few space battles too.
But I do think that trek is dead for now anyway, it was burned out during the voyager/ds9/enterprise run. They should have let a year or so go by before doing each new series, give the writers a chance to come up with new story lines rather then rehashing old ones.

now star trek in bikinis that sounds like a winner :D

I think they should do a spin-off called Star Trek: Orion, and have the ship populated 100% with Orion slave girls.
