sure, he's all when he's sober, but 3 drinks from now he'll be saluting a gay marine without using his hands (if ya know what I mean...)!
Backward views on DADT aside, I'm pretty sure EP did his time in the Armed Forces -- which I did not -- so he gets my respect for that.
Oh, he gets respect for that, because I respect the institution and the bravery of the men and women who fight to protect us every day. That, however, is the farthest and highest I will go in my respect for him, because as far as I'm concerned, he's an ignorant, narrow minded, bigoted lush who wouldn't be fit to shine the boots of that former soldier, and he's this way because he made himself this way.
Well then of course that's all we need to do then. Not sure about the other branches, but in The Army I just can't picture giving a class or two "this is a gay. Gay is O.K. Goodby, have a nice day" on a PowerPoint presentation at 6:00 A.M. and suddenly "POW" everyone's lifelong attitudes and ideals are changed. If so, the Army is incredibly naive and simplistic. However, I think they are just covering their ass so if there is trouble, they can say "don't blame The Army! We gave a class telling them gay is O.K. from now on."
How many harrssment classes were required, yet when a female soldier was raped in 93 or 94, her first sergeant suggested she not take any action and to "think of his career".
To recap - all the "classes" and workshops and think-tanks and "sensing sessions" and programs are hot air - basically tits on a pipe wrench worthless. Okay, sometimes soldiers will actually change their attitudes for better or worse. And to their credit, the younger soldiers are generally the ones who might get something out of all the effort. Here's an example - quite a few years back a whole bunch of Drill Sergeants got busted for banging young female recruits. So, The army had this HUGE revamping of any and everything to stop the shit and make doctrine changes. Part of their logic was making the requirement to be a DS E-6...no more E-5 because "they lacked maturity." Now the punchline......the majority of the recruit bangers were E-6 and E-7. The "immature" E-5 actually had the discipline and integrity to keep their dicks in their pants. Thus, the young soldiers will have to the ones preached to and threatened about not being mean or unfair to gays. The younger soldiers should be running this show because dollars to donuts most of the harassment and scandal will come from the soldiers old enough to know better.
Definitely. Same as when when black men were first accepted into the military. The military, being what it is, gets to comfortable with 'the way things are' and really do not like change. They especially hate change when the outside tells them they have to change.
Jenee is speaking the truth. My ship gave some training about the DADT change, and most of the questions asked were whether people would be allowed to cross-dress on their own off-time, and a multitude of questions about transsexuals that the CO said in so many words to STFU about it. This won't change much of anything. Nine times out of ten, if one needs to ask about someone's sexuality, you already know what the answer is.
Oh, yea. They know. and they're only asking to satisfy their own morbid curiosity - not for any reason that has anything to do with the person they're asking.
As long as gays don't become a protected species within the armed forces, I'm OK with this. Everybody has to be able to do at least the same minimum job.
That's a given. They won't be allowed any more bodyfat or any lower PT score. Not a factor anyway - I've had gay men in my squad, and their PT/bodyfat ratio is generally above average anyway.
That is AWESOME! I know The Army gets into "what about.....what if" scenarios but I wish I could have been at this training just for pure entertainment value alone!
