Of course, my jokester ass, first thing I'm gonna do in that back seat is put on a fedora, chomp on a cigarette and announce, "Theh'zh a Bogie on yeh shiksh, har har har!"
I'm impressed with the new "I haven't really got a double chin" AV John. But I'm worried that you are still posting on here and not working on your Oscar winning script.
Everything is camera angle and lighting. And I am working on it. The deadline got nudged back, which means I no longer have to spend almost every waking moment for 18 hours a day working on it.
Put it into a spin and then bailout. He should break his neck on the hitting the canopy on the way out.
Good RIO joke (probably told it before) Two RIO's are hanging out, and find a vending machine that gives out pilot wings. The wings cost a buck, but the two RIOs only have fifty cents apiece. "Look," the first RIO says, "how about we pool our money for a set of pilot wings, then we can take turns wearing them and see how it feels." The second RIO agreed, so they bought a set of pilot wings and the first RIO put them on. "Wow!" he said after a minute. "These are really cool!" "Awesome!" the second RIO said. "When's it gonna be my turn?" First RIO: "Hey! Shut up back there!"
It's not that I'm shoving my chin into my neck. It's that my fat goddamn neck won't stay on its own side! It keeps touching meeee-heeeee-heee-heeeeeee! MOMMMMMMMM!!!
They aren't pilots, and have a different designator. Even their wings look a little different, with two crossed anchors behind the shield rather than the single vertical fouled anchor. RIO is an acronym for Radar Intercept Officer, which is their job description. Their actual designator is Naval Flight Officer, as opposed to the pilots, who are Naval Aviators. Naval Flight Officers include the following specializations (all backseaters): RIO Radar Intercept Officer (F-4 Phantoms and F-14 Tomcats) B/N Bombardier/ Navigator (A-6E Intruders, KA-6D Tankers) WSO Weapons System Officer (F-18/F) ECMO Electronic Countermeasures Officer (EA-6B Prowler) Nav/Comm (P-3C) TACCO Tactical Coordinator (S-3 Viking, P-3C) I know I'm missing some- I can't remember what the radar guys in the back of an E-2C Hawkeye are called. Like pilots, NFO's are officers and follow the same career track as pilots. They are also eligible for squadron command, and may go on to command carriers and carrier battle groups. Basically they are everything a pilot is except the actual 'flying the plane' skill. They are the knob twiddlers and electronic voodoo guys. Pilots drive the bus.
