    Taken from here.

    So a couple of things.

First, the Bay Area has now overtaken Chicago as the 4th most productive CSA.

Secondly, HOLY FUCK, NYC is huge! We're talking LA+DC combined huge.

Lastly, when looking at the map keep in mind that CSAs are done by county. Counties out West are much larger than back East, so that's one reason why the CSAs look so much larger on the map.

As services and products are being sold over the internet, these statistics will become more and more useless.

The county sizes of western states may also account for why so many Phoenix is in the second quintile instead of higher. It's in a freaking HUGE county so all the economic growth in Phoenix and the suburbs is counteracted by the lack of growth in the unincorporated parts of the county.

Negative Ghostrider. While the Industrial Cities have most certainly fallen on hard times America is more urbanized now than ever before. As we continue to transition into a knowledge based economy this will only increase. There is a direct correlation between density and innovation and productivity.

Where would you count a sale for Amazon? Where it bought at? Shipped from? Amazon's home office?

GDP refers to products and services PRODUCED in a given area. How it is sold is irrelevant.

If you have to ask that's the reason you're in the 4th Quintile. ;)

The main explanation of this map is that we have too fucking many employees at the US census bureau.

    Way too fuckin many.

Oh, and why didn't they list how many people are black and hispanic, since that seems to be their main reason for existence? This chart is deeply flawed without a count of minorities and women broken out as the component/producers of the gpd.

What a bunch of useless fuckin cunts that comprise almost this whole damned government bureaucracy. 80% of the "bureau" should be laid off immediately, and nobody still would notice any significant difference our lives (except their families, who then might have to go get some real jobs). CB can hire their useless twats again in 2019 or 2020 for the next constitutionally mandated count.

I disagree. I think our public officials should have access to the largest and most accurate data available to them. Having rational, fact base decision making is a GOOD thing, and something we need MORE of, not less.
