That doesn't surpise me in the least - here at the Occupy Vancouver at the Art Gallery there's tents and plenty of shady characters set up right in front of this fantastic little cafe that sells great sandwiches (and booze!) and I can't imagine their sales are anything near what they were at this time last year. People just avoid stuff like that.
This is always going to be the case. Big business is never going to suffer. Let's face it, who are these occupy people largely made up of. I'll tell you. Hippies who have no responsibilities, or young people who have rich parents and therefore get to live the conveniance of life as a self declared liberal and crusader. They are the worst of the worst because they really don't give a shit about the hard working little man.
Exactly. If they truly cared about the little guy their protests would look more like the Tea Party protests and instead of chasing business off they would be in these stores buying.

40 wall street is three-and-a-half blocks away from Zuccotti park, which in Manhattan may as well be a couple of miles. It is a major office building, with retail and restaurant business generated by the workers in the building. In any year in which the Jewish high holidays come out midweek retail and restaurant businesses in the business districts of Manhattan will take an appropriate seasonal downturn. This story is an outright lie.
Then they are not occupying wall street. Because it might as well be a couple of miles away. Time to remove them freeloaders from the parks and make them free again for all people.

Yeah, this story reeks of . First of all, Zucotti Park (the actual site of the protestors) is a good 5-10 minute walk from 40 Wall Street. Second of all, when I was in New York in August before these protests started, that area of Wall Street had fences and police/security set up already and was blocked off for cars, which seemed to be permanent. Checking out Google Street View confirms that this area is fenced off in certain parts for pedestrian traffic, and is mostly blocked off for cars. Finally, 40 Wall Street is a massive 72-story commercial skyscraper also known as The Trump Building. Over 90% of this cafe's business would be workers from one of those floors or neighboring buildings, who would already be in the area and not perturbed by barricades half a mile away. Also, as usual this Fox News article is very misleading. The cafe owner blames both OWS and city officials. It's the city that is putting up these barriers, which he seems to think is an overreaction to the protests in Zuccoti Park (which again, is a 5-10 minute walk from this guy's cafe).
Setting up lawn chairs for a few hours and then supporting local businesses by getting fatter at the local diner?
This story is a Fox News fabrication, a lie more obvious than a baba spelling error to anyone who's spent any time in New York City. If you believe this story has any truth at all, you're the guy who buys the bridge and the Nigerian prince's fortune.

Probably? It says so right in the article you quoted. Police overreaction is not solely or even predominately the fault of the protesters. However since as other's have indicated it is blocks and blocks away and that the police have had the barricades up prior to any of this kicking off there is no way I can see for it be their fault at all.
