Says who? I can tell you nobody asks my permission.

First person to come back with some variation on "Well I only see you complaining about onnnnne side of that coin! :whaa: " gets my right shoe up their ass.

First person to say "Vote" gets the left one.

    No one ever does.

When are you going to figure it out?

    This shit they pull?
    It's what's intended.
    From step 1.

    Okay?
It's not that "libertarianism wasn't tried".

    It wasn't that "conservatism corrupted".

    Nothing corrupted, nothing went wrong.

    No, this was the plan.

This big fat stick-up, this heist, this is what it was all along.

Everything they taught you to believe was propaganda so they could have their heist.

How big does the rock that has to fall on your head have to be?

You're saying all that like I don't know it, because if I did know it, I'd....what? Stop going to work? Stop giving a shit how the money that is taken from me is spent? Stop listening to my own conscience because the people pulling the strings have no such handicap?

HELL no. You can't let other people's failings dictate what sort of person you are. You can't rely on outside encouragement to get you to do the right thing, even if you end up the only person in the world with the faintest sense of personal accountability. I attack the angle I can control, and at the end of the day the only person you can control is yourself.

That would mean ignoring my conscience. Not that that's a tough thing, acting without remorse. People do it all the time. The main reason I get so irritated with people is that I have to labor to not be that way, then watch them casually set it aside like it's nothing.

Now if I get one of those brain injuries I've seen on the L&W/CSI shows where you wake up with no impulse control at all....let's just say holding down a job and paying my bills will be the least of anyone's concerns about me.

So anything short of mass murder, and I clearly haven't figured it out?

No, bare minimum, I'd think you'd stop stumping for these people.

I'm not stumping for anyone. Not a single fucking soul. Someone else warping an otherwise defensible ideological position into a cynical bid to keep the taxpaying workforce under the thumbs of their GovInc masters has no bearing on how I act on my own convictions.

I get it. I get that some people not only get away with acting like slimy little shitweasels, they also live comfortable, prosperous lives of obscene wealth while I toil away in good faith at some shitty job that will never elevate me to a degree popular culture deems noteworthy. I don't control other people. I control me, and their actions don't excuse anything I might do. Doesn't matter if the entire fucking universe conspires to make acting responsibly and in good conscience a joyless, miserable experience while corrupt shitbags live in gold plated palaces surrounded by moats filled with actual poor childrens' tears. The right thing remains the right thing no matter how impractical and unrewarding it becomes, no matter how unpopular, and no matter how many people profit from being wrong.

No, I don't go to the effort of bitching about corporate welfare every single motherfucking time I comment about safety nets for individual citizens. Because a) I don't owe anyone a display of consistency at all times, and b) anyone who presumes me guilty until I proclaim my innocence because it better serves their bitchy little ideological pissing contest is a contemptible dickweed anyway.

If everyone wants to agree to conflate both subjects forever, I'll get on board. But you'll never agree that taking $100 you don't deserve is perfectly OK because some other asshole got a million he didn't deserve. It is the exact same goddamned action on a different scale, and the fact that we can't drop an axe on the big fish as easily as the smaller ones is no fucking excuse to decide against holding anyone accountable.

So, when does "the right thing to do", ever become putting an arrow through someone's wishbone?
The trains to the gas chambers?

I could probably expound all day on who I might like to kill and under what circumstances. Not that I put much thought into such things. :calli:

I'll say this, though. You don't get to pick and choose based on political affiliation, or how much of a sympathetic image they project, and if some evil dickbag pulls some seriously heinous shit that happens to be legal, you don't get to pin all of the blame on them with some bullshit "But we only wanted you to do niiiiiiiiice things with this program! :weep: " sniveling. You must indict the policy itself and the entire civilization that spawned it, along with all the cynical manipulations of naive good intentions. And if you do that, if you really go at it like a remorseless killing machine as a force for integrity, what you will be left with is a society where everyone lives without a net. Everyone and their corporations. All economies, at every level. What you'll be removing is the collective ability to manipulate financial circumstances based on anyone's idea of what's good and proper. Nothing can be engineered at the collective level, or this is what you'll get.

Yes...but I've found out to repeated shock, annoyance, and consternation over the years, that people just don't seem to tick that way...at a disturbingly fundamental level...

I could...make them...with...surgery...but you always seem to balk at the notion....:calli:

I'm not saying "do" or "don't" force lobotomies on people, and I'm definitely not saying "don't"...

What I am saying is that you'll never sell most people on an uncorrupted, uncompromising notion of personal accountability unless you allow them to exempt themselves from it due to <bullshit rationalization xyz>. It's always someone else who shouldn't get away with their shady bullshit. My shady bullshit is just A-OK.

Well, that comes down to..and I think there may have even been a thread on this..the human brain just sucks.

It's not made for wanting to be right, it wants to win.

Most people don't look in the mirror, and see a villain, everyone is hypnotized by their own brain to think they're good.

The brain resolves cognitive dissonance, not by correcting the problem, but by making up a story that makes it go away.

As evidence, I submit every WF thread ever.

But...the Obama/racist joke one will do.

    Humans are broken.
    They need to be....corrected. :borg:

    Most people, maybe. :cylon:

Just kill them when they fuck each other over without consent, and abolish any well-meaning policy that allows to fuck each other over. We can all live like monkeys in caves, with armed robots standing guard. Get up to some murdering, raping, killing, etc, and ED-209 guns your ass down right there on the spot.
