Just in case he wins, I'm starting the blame right now. Because make no mistake, if Romney becomes president, he will be to blame for every single thing that happens on his watch, anywhere in the world even if he had nothing to do with it. That's how it goes now, right?
Well, yes, but only if you're from the opposite political party. That's how it's been, like, forever.
Don't forget that he also becomes retroactively responsible for shit that happened years before he ever took office. Like when Dubya was blamed for the poor condition of the flood control stuff around New Orleans.
With the possible exception of the folks on DU (or so I'm told by the Sokars who visit the site regularly), I don't recall any major criticism of GWB until he started the drumbeat for Iraq. A lot of that was emotionally reactive, based on the fact that he somehow managed to visit Mississippi but seemed to have a hard time getting to Louisiana. It was also reactive to his, at that point, Teflon coating RE Iraq. Kind of like how if you know the perp committed murder but your evidence won't hold up in court, you go for the lesser charge.
I don't think it has. I certainly don't remember conservatives screaming "I BLAME CLINTON!!!" for everything that happened anywhere in the world. At least not until the GOP coup attempt. Then it was all Clinton all the time, and we were off and running.
I for one will most certainly blame Romney for his mistakes and lack of undoing the damage created by Obama. Once you sit in the big office, there is a brief honeymoon period you should afford someone, but after that, the buck stops at that desk. More than anything, I respect a man who owns up to the job he accepts and that is why I have no respect at all for the current occupant. You don't pass the buck when being a president is your job, and you look like a fool when you're still doing it 3 years later. I think Obama's values (or lack thereof) are reflected in his supporters. He has the same mentality that it's always the fault of someone else. A big number of his supporters are people who haven't gone very far in life but it is a rare thing to find one that would come right out and say "I'm where I am because of poor choices in life". Instead you hear about how people are holding them down, or nobody would give them something to help them get ahead in life, or they simply weren't afforded the same opportunities in life as every who is successful. Those on the right of the political spectrum are simply more demanding and less forgiving of those they elect to represent them, just as they often are more demanding of what they achieve in their own lives. By the end of George Bush's term, you were hard pressed to find a Republican who was satisfied with his performance in the waning days of his presidency. Especially with the bailouts. Conservatives felt outright betrayed by his actions. With that said, I expect things to remain exactly as they have always been. I for one will gladly be here to hold any Republican presidents feet to the fire and I suspect I will be far from alone. More importantly than that, I will let a potential president Romney hear my opinions at the voting booth long before he is able to stack up the number of failures than Obama has achieved.
