^^^ That trailer doesn't resemble anything remotely like the original series, that I can tell.

The original series was low budget, yes, but it was meant to be "serious" so called "gothic horror".

    This... is... bad. :(

It looked like it was trying to be a comedy, but I wept. :weep:

If you had ever seen DS TOS or the 1991 remake, you'd be crying your eyes out.

DS TOS was like Star Wars: Episode 4 and that was worse than TPM.

I've seen bits of the original series and the 90s reboot. Couldn't stand either of them, dull and boring (IMHO), but Jesus Buttfucking Christ, there's nothing appealing about this reboot at all. It looks to be all style and no substance, which is what Burton's been churning out for the better part of a decade now.

I have no idea of the tv series, so based on the trailer and the Beetlejuice vibe and the excellent cast I'm looking forward to this.

Agreed. Don't know, or care, about the source material, but from the trailer, that's definitely something I want to see.

That trailer started out OK. Then it turned into That 70s Show and went to hell.

Not having seen the original, I have no frame of reference to hate what i saw in the trailer.

My main thought was "can they do this without stealing too much from Beetlejuice?"

Being in a 30 second cameo in one scene is light years different than seeing the completed trailer. He may not have realized what he had gotten into at the time until he saw the completed footage, then blew his brains out.

FYI, the guy who wrote the script for this wrote the book "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter".

Unfortunate considering how fine a piece of literature that was.

I've read three more reviews today, all saying pretty much the same thing.

    I'll wait for DVD.

Saw it. Have ZERO knowledge of the original series. Another great offbeat performance by Depp. Lots of enjoyable parts that don't add up to much. Some important threads are left hanging at the end and there are a couple of dei ex machina in the resolution.

Might've enjoyed it more had I not been next to Typhoid-Mary-sniffling-Asian-punk and in front of Hyena-laugh-bitch-who-provides-running-audio-commentary.

Entertaining, with a few big laughs, but ultimately not fulfilling. 5.5/10.

Chiller is running a marathon of the 1991 remake right now. It's probably the better bet.

One reviewer described it as an SNL skit that was overly long.

There was time when SNL was top of the line.

The same can be said for Dark Shadows.
