We'll never know how the fire started. It was a drug den, probably full of homeless who set a fire to keep warm. It got out of control and they all left.

They purposely didn't tell us the whole story. They saved the guy's life (on only the second try!) and then did House follow him?

^Sloppy editing. We could have done with a lot less "get in touch with your feelings" (like about 40 minutes' worth) and a lot more exposition.

Bleh, I enjoyed it just fine. My only complaint is that they got everyone back but Lisa Edelstien as Cuddy. My guess is that she burned a few bridges when she quit at the end of last season.

So how'd a caneless pain-wracked cripple run all the way thru an exploding building in time to escape out the back door?

Okay, FIRE is an incentive, but...

For those of us who bailed on House a few seasons ago but are nevertheless interested in the series finale: would someone be kind enough to give a summary? :)

A caneless, pain-wracked crippled Vicodin addict who's also recently taken heroin, and who somehow gets past the flaming beam that just crashed behind him to get out the back door.

That and why didn't he die of smoke inhalation an hour earlier?

    Uhhh, let's seeee...

    Oh yeah - SPOILERRRRRS!!!

    • Wilson is dying of cancer and has 5 months to live.
    • House is facing 6 months of jail time for a prank that backed up the plumbing and collapsed a ceiling on an MRI machine and three people.
    • The patient of the week is a heroine addict.
    • House apparently went with the addict to a warehouse/drug den to shoot up and escape his woes.
    • The warehouse somehow caught fire.
    • The addict died, we guess of an OD.
    • In the fire, House hallucinated a series of people from his life who acted as his conscience and tried to set his life in perspective.
    • Just as Wilson and Foreman figured out where he was, they saw him at the warehouse door just as a flaming beam fell in front of him and the warehouse exploded.
    • Everybody from the past showed up for his funeral except Cuddy.
    • While Wilson was giving a brutally true, angry eulogy, he got a text message telling him to shut up, apparently from House.
    • Wilson meets House later, and House explains that he got out the back of the burning building and switched dental records with the addict, so the world thinks he's dead. Thanks to massive property damage and a dead guy, House got out of going to jail. He asks Wilson what he wants to do with his last 5 months on Earth.
    • The show ends with the two of them on motorcycles, sightseeing across the country.

Seriously, while I'm sure the below-the-line people had a lot of fun torching that old warehouse, they're supposed to have expert consultants on hand, and even a rookie fireman would tell you smoke inhalation kills most fire victims well before the flames reach them.

I was thinking that as well, but it's pretty much par for the course with respect to the "logic" of television writing these days, unfortunately.

As for the final scene, at least they didn't stoop to playing "Born to Be Wild"...

I did get a chuckle out of the reference to Dead Poets Society (a film Robert Sean Leonard was in).

Well, it didn't piss me off as much as the Sopranos or the Lost finales, at least.

I thought the Sopranos finale was just fine. I understand why lots of people were pissed, but it was just fine to me.

The show ending I hated was Deadwood. That was a total non-ending.

Yeah, Deadwood was a pisser. So was Carnivale.

That House ending with the motorcycles reminded me of something, and I just now remember what it is: The ending of MacGuyver, with Mac and his son riding off on motorcycles.

The best endings - whether it's a series, a movie, or a novel - are the ones that leave you thinking about what happens to the characters after the final fade.

That's the one thing this particular ending had going for it.

Deadwood and Carnivale's endings sucked because they were never meant to be the end of the series. HBO pulled the plug on the shows after the season finales aired, so we were left with bad cliffhangers.

The Sopranos ending sucked Richard Simmons' AIDS infected hairy cock!!!! David Chase purposefully fucked over the fans with that one, and he deserves all the mockery and scorn that comes his way for that piece of shit ending!

It was supposed to have 10 parts.

Look on the bright side: They could have L. Ron Hubbarded or Gene Roddenberryed him. :garamet:

Not that they might not do that anyway, depending on who currently owns the rights...

There are rumors of his girlfriend sitting on a fourth manuscript that's tied up in a complicated legal battle for custody of it with his father.
