Logic would dictate that Blueseed would see to the security of their own ship, especially given the amount of capital they'll have invested.

I'll bet the place will be rife with people involved in industrial espionage sort of stuff, though. There's more than one way to make a fortune!

Having trouble figuring out who will be the source of shrieking douchenozzle outrage on this one.

I guess it could be seen as a sneaky way of bypassing the whole illegal immigration issue without actually bringing anyone to "justice", but I can't see the problem with it unless they're covered by U.S. wage/labor laws or benefitting from tax-funded services. Those services would include the Navy and Coast Guard, though. Fuckers damn well ought to be on their own unless they're paying us for protection.

If they are not covered by those wage and labor laws, I could see someone whining about unfair competition. Or maybe just getting bitter over the fact that they won't have OSHA crawling up their asses.

Is 12 miles off the coast officially "international waters" for subjects like drugs, prostitution, money laundering, etc? Will people moving to and from the ship need passports, have to go through customs, be subject to TSA porno scans?

This idea is brilliant. I agree that they should be providing their own security with the fortune they are going to be bringing in. You want to go to international waters, fine. But be prepared to defend yourself should the need arise. Enjoy your profits. :techman:

And when that happens, and the "entrepreneurs" shriek for Coast Guard intervention, I hope the US tells them to fuck off.

But we won't. Because we're cool like that.

Re: Company to park cruise ship 12 miles off US coast for foreign entrepenaurs without vis

Dumb idea really. Just to get to the ship they'd need to either sail for weeks from a foreign port or land in SFO and take the ferry boat over. The problem is all of these people lack US visas so they can't land at SFO ergo the idea is retarded. Also folks trying to start a new small business don't generally have the spare cash to spend thousands each month to live on a luxury cruise liner parked off of San Francisco so I doubt there is even much demand for this service even if there was a convenient way for those people to get to the ship.

Re: Company to park cruise ship 12 miles off US coast for foreign entrepenaurs without vis

A much better idea is for the US to streamline the bureaucratic mess which prevents people from entering the country legally. If people have money and want to start up new businesses then we should be making it as easy as possible to get them to create jobs here in America. Of course, that would never fly in Congress because some dipshit would claim it was amnesty or letting terrorists in or something so all of these new jobs will end up in foreign countries.

Enjoy living on a boat without the ability to visit the closest land mass to you.

I just wait for the first instance of one of these people having a medical emergency on board and them calling the US Coast Guard to save them. :dayton:

An even better idea for creating jobs is to declaw the EPA and have someone stand behind Obama and repeatedly slap him upside the back of the head until he releases the stranglehold on domestic energy. We don't need Julio's [-]chop shop[/-] Auto Body acting as a magnet for more illegals.

I'm guessing yes, anybody coming into the country needs a passport, but I'd imagine any international businessman would have one. And customs will want to see them. I'd say no to the scans (they're not getting on a plane) though.

But this ship is gonna make a juicy target for any terrorist organization with access to an otter-powered attack submarine of the ass.

A chopper ride from TJ to ~SF would be 520 miles and take god knows how long one way. How much would the gas cost and do many choppers even have a 1040 mile range?

A company being willing to go to the expense of parking a cruise ship 12 miles offshore for talented people who can't get visas is a pretty sure sign that our immigration system needs to be changed.

I think the article got the visa issue wrong. The way I understand it, business visitor visas are the only ones that are actually available in sufficient quantities, but H1B is in short supply, so the idea is that people will live on the ship, and take a helicopter to the mainland for business meetings on business visitor visas.

So these people are needed so badly that it's worth the expense of parking a cruise ship offshore to house them, but our immigration policy is too fucked up to just let them live here already?

A cruise ship can hold what? Thousands of people? I could easily see this working and actually making sense.

There are probably a lot of rich people who would invest in this to help it work.

I know where they can get a great deal on a cruise ship. And it's already pre-anchored.
