    Oh hell no!

That was unquestionably the finest pilot episode of a one hour drama series in the history of television (at least, if there is a better I've not seen it)

If I had a DVR I'd be watching it again now. And again when it ended.

I have no idea whether then can keep it up but it was glorious.

Nova you malignant cunt well done I would not have heard of this show if not for this thread and it was awesome. You are 2/2 in fanboy threads so far in getting me into new shows.

Correcting myself - It's "Last Resort" not "The Last Resort"

I'm not as good at going into detail on reviews as Paladin or some others are, but I honestly can think of only one VERY mild flaw - at the end, during the announcement, there were a series of scenes interspersed in which i was just a bit unsure what was going on. I'm sure a second viewing will help clear that up nicely....but that criticism, in context, is like winning a brand new sports car and being a bit disturbed it didn't come with a full tank of gas.

Lines or scenes you will love:

"Relax Lt., we're not actually at war. Just let them know how incredibly dead they would be if we were."

First scene with sexy "prototype" woman.

    XO's "speech"

Seal's explanation to the tinpot thug about how he'd shot his men

Captain Chaplin's entire last eight minutes of the episode

High points are not meant to imply there are any low points.

Don't just take my word for it:

Edited of course, to select my favorite lines and a sense of the tone of the article - read the whole thing here.

also - I learn tonight this thing has been available on Yahoo for two weeks?!!? I could have watched it 5 or 6 times by now!

A totally improbable premise, but DAMN, it was good. I mean "holy shit! it's over already" good.

I'm sold. Will download it tonight.

Also, I checked out the cast and it's got Daisy Betts, whom I would pay hard cash to see naked.

Mmmmmm...Autumn Reeser. I first recall seeing her in No Ordinary Family. There's at least one nude scene of her out there on the web.

Just watched it. Pretty good overall. Mostly good CGI work considering it's a network television show (the bit when the sub surfaces under the fishing/tugboat looked cheesy).

I think this show would benefit from the shorter 10-12 episode cable series season format because I don't know if they can sustain this over a full 20-something episode season. Reminds me a lot of the ABC series Flash Forward in that regard: Interesting premise, but can they sustain it?

The director was Martin Campbell, notably the same director of the films Casino Royale (2006) and Goldeneye (1994). So he was well suited.

Well, don't like it too much. The ratings are in and the show premiere recruited just 9 million viewers, with only a fraction more in the key adult demo than “Charlie’s Angels” got last year -- and that only lasted four episodes.

Yes that wasn't too bad. However, two nitpicks: CGI doesn't have to look like it's 1995, even on TV. And where to go from here? Will this be a citadel type of show where some heavily armed but mostly benevolent 'guardian' forces the world into peace? There's a couple of short stories on that topic.

Finally caught it over the weekend. Definitely one of the best TV pilots I've seen in years, right up there with Lost and Firefly.

I agree that this show would be better suited with a 12-episode per season format so that we don't get so much "filler" that bogged down shows like Lost. Still, there's some potential for interesting storylines. My main concern is keeping the show riveting week to week. It's going to be hard to top the pilot. After all, if they sub has to stay in the bay all the time, that doesn't leave much room for more submarinal action.

So here's a hypothetical question -- if you had one of your subs go rogue in this manner, how would you take it out?

I'm guessing that with the sub anchored in the bay the land mass would seriously inhibit it's sonar capability. Another sub could flank them around the island using it as cover and appear at the mouth of the bay, then launch torpedoes before the other sub could react and launch it's nukes. Thoughts?
