    :tinfoilhat:

That makes no sense on any level. Why the fuck would they invite an invasion over their ability to have WMD and then just give them away? :bang:

The Iraqi government struck you as a bastion of competence, did it?

Because knowing they were going to roll over anyway, they could make America look like bullies for destroying their nation for no good reason.

Would it make sense to be caught with the wallet you just stole, or to throw it away before the cops come? Now do you see where I'm coming from?

So they left themselves without their best defence against America... to make America look like a bully?

That's idiotic. No way they would throw away power just to possibly shame an enemy.
Replace "wallet" with "gun," and "cops" with "angry dude coming to stomp your ass into the curb for refusing to drop your gun," and it's a better analogy.

The idea that the Iraqi regime held the embarrasment of George Bush as a higher priority than self-preservation is so stupid that it's difficult to put into words.

This fantasy being ignored, at least you admit being bullies who destroyed Iraq for no good reason.

How did the U.S. destroy Iraq?

We killed but a small fraction of those killed by Saddam Hussein.

oldfella said it, not me. Ask him.

I could answer, but I don't think you're worth the effort.

Allow me to explain - they had no power - at least compared to the U.S. And once they realized Bush was hell-bent on coming over and bringing an ass-whipping with him, they knew their goose was cooked. Even if they were chock full of weapons, they would never use them against us. We are not powerless Kurds - we would go apeshit crazy. We didn't use a fraction of our power in Iraq, trust me.

So knowing they didn't stand a chance, they took the chemical weapons they had to their closest neighbor.

If we fucked up Iraq a without a proven "reason" and acting on only a strong suspicion, imagine what we might have done if we found a smoking gun. :santa_shocked:

Nope. It still makes no sense. Your determination to exonerate the lies of your government has blinded you to everything else.

If there was the slightest shred of evidence that this had happened, the American government, and the Republican talking heads would have been screaming it from the rooftops. That even they cannot swallow such nonsense shows just how deranged the idea is.

They were. The talking heads, at least. A few "unnamed sources" in the administration too, I think, though I don't think that was the official position.

I seem to recall the theory being that if the US didn't find WMD's, they might either leave the Baathists in power or leave before finding Saddam, and the weapons could then be brought back.

More people repeating nonsense to justify their actions doesn't make it true.

No, but it makes it consistent if it is true.
