(Some background: The Atlantic suggested 5 people more deserving of the honor than Obama. One of their suggestions was Hillary Clinton, because she "empowers women." Below is my response to that suggestion.) Here's who it should have gone to: Malala Yousafzai. No doubt, no question. More than Hillary Clinton, Malala Yousafzai demonstrated a commitment to freedom and human rights. Unlike Clinton, she didn't just talk about it -- she acted on it. Hell, she very nearly died for it. That girl is the 21st century's answer to William Wallace.
Well yeah. But Time's award is for the most significant person of the year, not the most praiseworthy. Either Angela Merekel or Francois Hollande should probably be a contender
Didn't Gabby Douglas make the voting list? It's not a very meaningful award when a gymnast makes the list. There had to be someone more influential.
The Eurozone economy is a similar size to the US economy. And those two are making decisions that are determining whether it survives.
Time Man of the Year, 1938: Time Man of the Year, 1939: And again in 1942: Time Man of the Year, 1979: Naming BHO Person of the Year is perfectly in keeping with their track record.
If it was going to go to an athlete, it should have gone to the broad at the Olympics who did that (probably?) innocent but Oh-My-God-I-Can't-Stop-Replaying-This-Clip little dance. [yt=You know... this one.]qzJPoMjxV3c[/yt] I guarantee she got more men watching womens' sporting events.
Great. Thanks for posting that. Now the rest of my workday is shot. If anyone needs me, I'll be in the private bathrom thinking of that video and doing nasty things to myself.
Who drove the news cycle more than President Obama this year? Remember, the award isn't for the "best person." It's for the most newsworthy.
I never make Time's Person of the Year, even when I promised the city I would close my living room blinds when I did my nude jumping jacks every morning.
Indeed. If Hollande cannot be nominated for that.. then surely his dominatrix Valerie should deserve it more.. She obviously has him whipped and certainly has been responsible for generating more than a half of the French news on their current Presidential regime..
Gotta be honest, Time isn't a magazine I read, kinda like People magazine. And I really haven't any interest in either mags most awesome, sexiest newsworthy person alive of the year award/issue/cover.
Given the TIME's former picks, I really can't see ANY actual relevance to this years choice. And who really cares anyway? Time should change the printed material from glossy paper to a paper more like newsprint paper. At least we could put it to SOME good use...
I'm gonna go with, "We really don't need pics of that. Let's just take his word for it and not judge."
