Picked this up on post today - nut brown ale by Shmaltz microbrewery. Great aftertaste that really sticks with you. Despite not getting the highest ratings, the reviews pretty much describe it accurately. I highly recommend it. http://beer.findthebest.com/l/1493/Shmaltz-Messiah-Nut-Brown-Ale
I had this with dinner tonight, and all I can say is, WOW! http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/26520/71820
Anyone here every make their own beer? That's something I've always wanted to do but have been too lazy. All the brews in this thread look good.
I make my own, as do a few others at Wordforge. I've made stouts, porters, bocks, trapist ales, IPA, steam beers and Bohemian pilsners.
There's an idea. I can custom make beer to my own preferences. It might be fun, but it might take a few/lot of batches.
Here's an interesting brew: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/...l?utm_hp_ref=fb&src=sp&comm_ref=false 65 ABV -- that will put some hair on your chest!
I'm drinking a really earthy stout to go with the storm. It's Babayaga by Pretty Things Beer and Ale Project. I really like this brewery and have yet to find anything from them that I didn't like. This is no exception. A deep, dark color; carmel, frothy head; smoky, herbaceous flavor. It evokes a dark, kind of feel -- flavors of anise, rosemary, a touch of truffle, and a very nice balance of sweet and bitter. Good find. I like IPAs. Sierra Nevada makes good stuff. I think I had a Dogfish Head pumpkin beer or ale & it was pretty good.
Anyone else here besides me ever tried or had a Natty Daddy? It's made by Budweiser. It's an ale/beer like drink, 8% ABV & only sold/comes in in blue 24 oz cans. It IS strong & probably an acquired taste, so I could see & understand Natty Daddy NOT being everyone's cup of brew. It goes great with many types of food.
I'm curious about these glasses, but not sure if I'll buy them. I have quite a few of Sam Adam's special glass which supposedly does all the same things (designed by MIT eggheads no less).
We need to make some more beer than send a six pack to other beer brewers on here. Effectively making our own beer of the month club. With all of the brewers on here it could be affective.
I like your thinking Aenea. Off the top of my head, I know that besides you and Flow, there's me, muad, enlisted person, shootER, who else? We could get a serious beer sharing club going.
Another good brew is Innis & Gunn's rum casket variety/flavor. Speaking of homemade brew, it must be REALLY fun & cool to make it at home.
I got mine as a gift a few years ago. I think they came from Bed Bath and Beyond Belief or some place similiar.
Thanks! I'm heading there post-haste. Walmart, my Post Exchange, even Goodwill - no glasses of the shape I need.
Yes! I found the glass (or a close proximity) online at BB and B. Matter of fact several specialty beer glass styles. http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?SKU=207781
Glass update! I ordered a set of six hefe glasses (called jumbo pilsner or something) from Amazon. They hold 22 ounces, which should handle a German bottle. They don't come in 12 ounce cans or bottles, it's some metric measurement but it's pretty big. And you have to pour a whole hefe in one smooth motion. You can't pour in half a bottle then just pour the rest later. You have to pour about 3/4 of the bottle, then swirl to bust up the yeast, then dump in the last bit. I won't say "pour" for that last bit because it's thick and oozes out. But that's what puts that creamy head on it.
The only homebrew I've ever had was a blueberry stout. You make a blueberry stout and I might actually find a reason to like you.
I'm planning on starting soon. I don't know when, but I'm gonna do it before the summer. (Long window, I know)
7-11, delis, lotto shops, convenience stores, but NEVER in a supermarket or a beer/soda supply store/wearhouse/distributor
You must be right about it being an east coast thing, 'cause I've never seen a trace of it here nor even heard its name until you mentioned it.
Beer Advocate rates it a 61 out of 100, and categorizes it as malt liquor. I'd say not being able to find it is probably a good thing.
Do you expect good taste out of something called the "Natty Daddy?" It's just for people to buy who want to get drunk on a malt beverage.
