I really liked it. I like the final episode, but hopefully all the unresolved threads means that we'll get more in some form.
I've heard some speculation about this possibly being the lead-in to a movie deal...and maybe it's me, but I can't see this being a full on movie production. Like Star Trek, it works best as a TV series. Hopefully, there's been enough foot traffic and new revenue for Netflix to entertain the idea of a season five.
A lot of confusion was caused by Reed Hastings saying it was a one time project back in February but since then other Netflix execs have said they want a season 5 and maybe season 6, but possibly could do a movie instead of a season 6. Mitch Hurwitz, Will Arnett, and Jason Bateman have all said that they believe season 5 is going to happen. I think we will get a season 5 and a movie and the 5th season will have to be shot the same way the 4th season was with a few characters at a time due to their scheduling conflicts. Hopefully we'll have it in 2 years, I really can't imagine it happening in 1.
Bateman and Cera apart, unless there are a slew of new shows that I missed, I'm not seeing where these scheduling conflicts arise.
Tony Hale has been doing Veep. Will Arnett has been in a ton of TV and film roles, and has also been going through a divorce. Jeffrey Tambor has been doing The Hangover movies. Jessica Walter has been doing Archer. David Cross has probably been doing stand-up comedy and other projects. Portia De Rossi has been getting plastic surgery and doing Ellen.
Even Alia Shawkat has a full schedule. IMBD shows 5 projects in 2011, 6 projects in 2012, and 5 projects in 2013 not including Arrested Development. Most of those projects are movies which I'm sure require a pretty good chunk of the calendar depending on the size of her role. There is always shooting and reshooting and then post production shoots to fix issues. They could also be shot in lots of locations. She is probably one of the least active of the actors involved. There are also lots of side characters that have to be coordinated with. When you're dealing with so many people that are not under any contractual obligation to make a shooting schedule work with you, treating your project as their side project, I'm sure it gets very difficult to coordinate.
Having never seen an episode of the series, I finally watched the pilot on Netflix last night. I find most modern single-camera comedies to be completely unfunny and moronic, but I admit to liking the pilot. I'll keep watching and hopefully get caught up on the new season.
It's so good. Stick with it. Before you know it, you'll binge through every episode and have none left to watch.
I'm the total opposite. I can't stand sitcoms with a laugh track. I pretty much stick only to the ones shot like AD, The Office, Parks & Rec, and Modern Family. What comedies do you like that aren't shot in that format?
I watched all of season and thought it was funny. Loved the bit that one on banks just giving homes away cause it was 2006. Kinda like the way the show is based on enron it has real world events influencing a sitcom.
Not that damn many. 99% of television comedies SUCK whether they have a laugh track or not. Some of my favorites include: Cheers Frasier Everybody Loves Raymond Friends Two and a Half Men (with Charlie Sheen) I'm not arguing that shows with laugh tracks or live audiences are better. It's just that I haven't seen a single camera show that I can recall that was any good. Shows like Cougar Town or Modern Family feel like they are trying too hard for laughs, and in the end are simply not funny. I did like the new Munsters pilot, but unfortunately NBC doesn't have any balls and refused to pick it up.
I gather the first season of Parks & Rec isn't well regarded. Is it still worth watching to get up to speed or can I dive straight into season 2?

I laughed so hard at the Ender's Game reference. Kristen Wiig as young Lucille just did not work for me. And I definitely didn't find the new material to be as good or as funny as the old, but really how could it be. It was entertaining, but mildly disappointing.
Three episodes in and I'm really struggling to get through it. There's a lot of strong comedy, but no story. It's just a bunch of...stuff happening.
Thanks, Obama. I've almost completed my second viewing of season 4. So many jokes I missed the first time are popping out at me, partly because they reference things later in the season and partly because they're so subtle.
