And you know what happens when you cross a red line?

    :calli:

We, uh, draw another red line somewhere else.

The Obama Admin. has no desire for any kind of real military conflict involving the United States.

Hell, one quarter of the fighter & attack squadrons in the U.S. Air Force are currently grounded due to the sequester/funding problems.

Given how Republicans first demanded he get involved in Libya then flipped a 180 and claimed it was an illegal war when he actually did what they demanded... Well, can you blame him?

I suspect we'll start funneling some weaponry to the rebels. But here's an excellent illustration of why you don't publicly draw a line in the sand. Obama was pushed in to doing this by Congressional hawks like McCain who see a war as an opportunity to play politics. At least he has shown more balls about this regarding Iran. Never, ever, define how to be boxed in to a corner.

Fuck the rebels. This is not some heroic Luke Skywalker shit. These rebels are rabid Islamist jihadis. All their videos are full of Islamist trappings, flags, banners, songs, and shouts of Allah Akbar every other second.

The only thing they would ever bring to Syria is brutal, repressive sharia law and general Islamic-state shitholeness.

    Let Assad gas them.

Now that there have been a few posts, I'll give you my opinion.

It's not our fight and we shouldn't be involved in it. Period! Either way. We should not back Assad and we should not back the rebels. It's their affair; let them settle it.

It's just more of the same bullshit that has half of the world pissed at us.

^ That said, it was a given that Obama would get involved in it, McCain or no McCain. He's kissed radical Muslim ass for the last 4 years. Why would anyone think this would be any different?

I'm saving that one for my history classes this fall!.

Simple yet compelling. It should be good in illustrating a lesson about the rise of authoritarianism.

    I agree with this comment...

But I'm not sure about this one. IMO, he has only pissed off radical Muslims even more with his daily/weekly drone strikes...

He's possibly killed more Muslims than any other US President before him...

That's the odd contradiction of Obama's so-called "foreign policy". On the one hand he's kissed their asses and helped the radicals rise to power, but on the other hand, he's pissing them off with the drone strikes.

    This will not end well.

Helping Assad's regime can be equated to eating a bite of a fibery solid turd sandwich. Helping the Rebels can be equated to eating a bit of a Sloppy Joe-like diarrhea sandwich. Either way is not a good option. I understand that this is the real world and that you're never going to agree completely with one side of a fight. Remember, we sided with the Communists in the Big One.

But, this is especially stinky. So, I elect to not intervene at this time. Sorry. :clyde:

When McCain finally drops dead, everyone who can get to Harrisburg can come meet me! I'll throw a little get together and buy you all drinks and dinner. We'll joke about how McCain's soul is likely "warmer" than our throats as we send him off with vodka, beer, and spirits! We'll call it the John McCain Good Riddance and Wordforge Collective Party.

Did you know that one of the main tactics of those trying to be authoritarian is to eliminate and marginalise those with differing opinions, or to force them to accept their view?

    Sound familiar?

Also a main tactic of most every ideologue.

Oh heck yeah, it's everywhere, we've plenty of examples right here on Wordforge!

I'd be fine with that, if staying out really meant letting "them" settle it. Because right now, Iran and Russia are backing Assad. Staying out means letting Iran and Russia decide who wins.

Are you really fine with Iran and Russia decide who wins?

Yep. Let them get their hands dirty for a change. We have so much blood dripping from our hands that we could easily be mistaken for Aztec priests at this point.

Looked like such a promising fan-produced game project. It's a pity the development team wasn't able to keep it together. :(

    Earth, Korea, 1950

    Earth, Vietnam, 1963

    Earth, Afghanistan, 1979

    Earth, Beirut, 1983

We don't exactly have a sterling record in this sort of thing. Perhaps it is time to try a new tactic?
