The greatest fault is not with the interfering neighbor but with the totally ridiculous police who arrested her and kept her in jail overnight. That shows they any police involved in this case are totally incompetent to enforce laws for public safety, which is what they are supposed to do.

The bright side is that 20 years ago, this might have made the local news, but with the internet, the whole country will now be pointing and laughing at the LaPorte, TX, police department. That makes it much, much harder to sweep it under the rug, and/or shut her up with veiled threats of taking action against her for other things.

This kind of abysmal stupidity and harrassment of innocent citizens has to stop, period. And I say that as someone who is, in general, a strong supporter of the police.

I'm guessing the neighbor is a cunt, who views the cul de sac and the street as her own personal property, and doesn't want them hooligan kids playing it. I remember growing up and having neighbors like that, they would bitch and fuss over us damn kids playing in their street.

That's cops . They aren't your friends and they don't have your best interests at heart. I learned that in college when the local police force was all too willing to hand out MIP's and noise violations but wouldn't lift a finger for anyone who had a bike stolen or a car broken into. Contemptible assholes.

One of my son's friends ran out of gas on an expressway, only about two or three minutes walk from the nearest exit ramp and convenience store selling gas - or more specifically his beater car broke down, and he burned through the gas trying to get it going.

Anyway, the cops came along as he was walking toward the nearest convenience store. He explained his problem (pretty obvious - car pulled over, guy with gas can about a block further down the road) and the cops told him to get in the car. He figured "great! They can get me to the store quicker and maybe even help me."

HA! They drove him right to the station where they arrested him for walking on an expressway. They told him he should have called someone to give him a ride to get gas then brought him back to his car - it's illegal for pedestrians to be on the expressway.

So what the fuck do they expect you to do if you don't have a phone, or the battery dies, or you're traveling in a city where you don't know anybody? Burn your spare tire to summon AAA with fucking smoke signals?

The cops have a contest to see who can get more trivial arrests.
Believe it or not jaywalking (at 2:00 in the morning with no actual cars in motion for at least a couple of city blocks) is an unsung revenue enhancer for Augusta. BTW anything a cop can write you a ticket for? Technically they can arrest and book you for that discrepency if they get pissed off or just need something to do on a slow day.

    Judge Dredd mentality.

Judge Dredd: You could have gone out the window.

Fergie: 40 floors? It would have been suicide!

Judge Dredd: Maybe, but it's legal.

More like Barney Fife mentality. Small-town cops with an inflated sense of their own importance and too much time on their hands.

I would say the greatest fault is that a woman could even be arrested for letting her children play outside unsupervised.

    more like Major Hochstetter.
