I've cleaned out the threads I felt were needing to be cleaned out, either through Shelter releases or deletions because the threads were so old that they were no longer relevant (there were a couple on Page 2 from 2012 and before). I've left everything that I had a question about or that seemed like it shouldn't be released yet.

BTW, would it be possible to get Help Desk permissions? Somehow I managed to release a few threads more than once and there are duplicates in the Shelter Release subforum.

Good idea. Everybody on staff now has helpdesk moderator powers.

Ah, I was wondering what happened. Maybe in the future when you guys decide to make a staff wide change, you could send us a PM or email to let us know or put a sticky in a forum? I hadn't seen this thread, but noticed that I now had Help Desk permissions.

In all fairness, as a Moderator, you should probably get in the habit of checking here first when you log in.

Not disagreeing with what you said, but my mod powers are limited to the Help Desk and Techforge, so the title of this thread isn't one to inspire me to check into it immediately, as it doesn't seem to overlap with my duties, just an announcement by shootER that he's done his job.

It doesn't matter...all staff should read all Shelter Threads. Being informed is important and decisions made in any thread in here could have potential to affect you, or teach you.

Plus, if your ever called upon to run a different forum for some reason, you will have some idea how to do it. Forums develop a culture and that will happen moreso with moderators tasked with "leading" their forums in theme and tone. Seeing what gets reported and how it's handled will give you a good idea of the prevalent tone in a forum.

Yes, but we all have to prioritize things. A thread title which doesn't indicate that there's been changes to everyone's abilities is going to go lower down the list than a thread talking about problems with the board software. Additionally, one can read a thread, but miss a post that has that information in it. This is especially easy to do if the comment is in the middle of a long post. Calling it out, either in a separate thread, or via PM/email means that folks are more likely to notice it first. The change wasn't in the OP, or even in the first few posts, so I had to go down a bit before I saw it.

Think of it as a "belt and suspenders" solution. It doesn't allow a mod to say, "Oh, I must have missed that thread, or the post where this was set out."

Basically, you guys were supposed to have those abilities to begin with, so it wasn't so much new as much as a fix. I recommend hitting the threads at the top first, where the action is. I suspect most of the time there won't be too many active threads in the shelter.

That said, obviously the more communication, the better. That's something it's always important for all of us to watch.

Probably not, but I know that I don't always notice new threads, or if I do notice that they're new, I don't always pay attention to what forum they're in. (One of the reasons I stay out of the Blue Room is if I don't read anything in there, I don't have to worry about posting something I shouldn't.)

Look at it this way, if somebody in the middle of a thread in the Red Room (for example) realized that there needed to be a change in board policy, you wouldn't leave the notice of it in that thread, you'd start a new thread to make sure everyone saw it.

Good question. I don't recall releasing or deleting that one.
