Okay, my supply people might save money (so don't say gub/mint contractors waste money!) by buying a computer monitor from the civilian world. So...are all monitors VGA compatible? One of my co-workers said that some newer ones may not have one. The equipment I need it for is 20 years old or so, thus the monitor needs a VGA port. Any advice on getting a 14" or so color monitor cheap? CANNOT be E-Bay "bidding" situation. Must be a set price from well known reputable company that accepts gub'mint credit cards.
If it doesn't have a VGA connection, look to see if there's a DVI->VGA adapter. I know there are VGA->DVI adapters, but I don't know about the other way.
You might also look at a small TV. Many of them have VGA ports (I use one for a monitor on the desktop in my bedroom). Then you can also watch a show during down times.
Here's a 16 inch TV with VGA input for $109. http://m.bestbuy.com/m/e/product/detail.jsp?skuId=1762709&pid=1219063717794&pcatId=abcat0101001
I've got a Dynex (Best Buy's house brand) 22" HDTV, that has a VGA port. I don't know what they cost (I won mine in a raffle), but it works just fine with an ancient Dell PC running XP.
I found a DELL from TigerDirect for 89.99. It has a VGA connection too. No, I never needed a TV - just a monitor that gets video data from some air traffic control equipment.
Okay, so since it's a 20 year old system you'll probably want to avoid a widescreen monitor, in my opinion. Here is a list of monitors with D-sub (VGA) connectors which are still in the 4:3 format. Not sure if there is one in the listing that's 14 inches, but Newegg is a reputable source. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...DeactivatedMark=False&Order=PRICE&PageSize=50
Yep, that's the very set-up I have. And a 30 inch monitor is sweet for all the porn spreadsheets I use.
