Barbara Charline Jordan (February 21, 1936 – January 17, 1996) was an American politician and a leader of the Civil Rights movement. She was the first African American elected to the Texas Senate after Reconstruction, the first southern black female elected to the United States House of Representatives, and the first African-American woman to deliver the keynote address at a Democratic National Convention. She received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, among numerous other honors. On her death, she became the first African-American woman to be buried in the Texas State Cemetery.

But if all the termites got together, the house would fall down." In 1974, People magazine wrote that she was "The biggest, loudest and, indisputably, the rudest mouth on the battleground."

Big problem is that my internet has been down for nearly three days at my house now. The provider has sent out a tech (third time in three months) because their system keeps saying there is a line break somewhere. Now they say it is a port at the phone company. I'm at my in laws now visiting for the weekend.

I've used my work computer some but naturally I have to use it mostly for immediate work. My list is up to 28 now so I should not have too many problems fleshing it out.

Actually, I'm inclined to mention Sammy Davis Jr. for various personal reasons. Including the fact that he guest starred twice on my favorite western "The Rifleman" all the way back in 1960 or so.
