NORWALK, Iowa —A Norwalk 8th grader said she was humiliated Wednesday when she was denied a school lunch because there wasn't enough money in her account. “I was really embarrassed when I walked out of there, and then my friend she looked at me and she's like 'Where is your lunch tray?' I'm like 'They didn't give it to me,'” said Gillian Richardson. (Um. No. You coudln't PAY for it! They are not obligated to GIVE you anything.) Gillian’s mother, Pam Richardson, said her family has enough money to pay for her daughter's school lunches, but didn't get a notification from the school that the balance was negative. Norwalk School District business manager Kate Baldwin said what happened to Gillian was an unfortunate miscommunication. She said the district has a separate fund from the food pantry in place to make sure things like this don't happen, but somehow the situation slipped through the cracks. “We do have through the ministerial association, local Norwalk Ministerial Association, additional funds to help bridge those occasional or temporary deficits to student accounts. So no student does go without a lunch,” said Richardson. In Boston Public Schools, they don't charge for the lunch. But that's a new program. Prior to this year, if I forgot to give my kids money for lunch, they could run a credit tab.
Everywhere I know allows students to charge their lunches. Their parents have to settle up accounts at the end of the year to get their report cards to to get their transcripts.
So Porky blames the school because she as a parent didn't keep tabs on her kid's lunch account, yeah nice way to shuffle blame.
Oh please. If the mother's picture was posted in the Red Room outside the context of this incident, a bunch of guys here would be posting "I'd do her".
Shut up Dayton , just cuz you are fapping at the Pig Woman, doesn't mean the rest of us are. Besides you are just imaging punching her in the face for her own good.
You have a fatty fetish? Something we didn't know before. And how could you even know what others find attractive?
Liar, you hit your wife. Unless she isn't a woman. And you've said you found sex with her to be a chore.
One incident does not define a person's character which is what what's his name (and you often) try to do.
It's Iowa. By local standards, they're skinny. Actually, the favored term is "I'd hit it," but I can see how that might confuse things in your case.
Our school district will allow the kid with a zero balance a single lunch that can send the account balance into negatives. After that, without any deposits, they give the kid a cheese sandwich for lunch. And maybe a milk. Still, looks like both the Mom and the Kid could stand to miss a meal or two...
Poor kid. Seriously, kids shouldn't have to pay for things their parents do. A child should always have a meal, and arrangements made in other ways. This is absurd.
In my kids school they still fed them, but parents had to settle up by year's end. Very fair in my opinion, and should be the standard.
It's a sad fucking day when Dayton has the moral high ground in a thread. Well played, Tardforge. Well played.
Ideally the standard would be school cafeterias providing lunch as part of the school service, since kids who have had a decent healthy lunch will do better. If it's an extra paid service though your way is definitely good.
The schools around here will do the same for elementary and middle schools, the high school kids are S.O.L., and even then they get a sandwich and milk.
Yeah, I'm fine with settling up at the end of the year, if necessary. In fact, that just seems the reasonable thing to do.
I just . . . why is this considered important enough to be in the leading summary? She's an 8th grader, being humiliated by anything remotely negative that happens in her vicinity is part of the job description. It's not like the lunch lady dragged her around the room, chanting "She couldn't pa-ay, she couldn't pa-ay."
You mean kind of like this? Even more so, why did the fat mom have to take the whole thing to the news? Her kid missed one meal, she wasn't going to starve anytime soon. The mom is one one who had to go make a huge deal out of the whole thing. There were a few times a year when I forgot to take my lunch money or my mom forgot to either give it to me or give me check to pay for the month in advance.
