So, thanks to a friend I finally got it cheap tablet, almost a year and a half after I was supposed to of gotten one for Christmas. I'm still learning my way around the idea of apps and so forth (aad I'm in the market for recommendations of the best free apps to download by the way) but that's not the subject of this thread

so my question is this are there any free (or one dollar)e-books on the Kindle store on Amazon that you would recommend reading. I'm looking to load up..

Anything in the public domain you can get for free. Generally it's going to be stuff more than 75 years old, but still plenty worth reading.

I can not recommend Agent to the Stars highly enough. It's John Scalzi's first novel, originally self-published as shareware and now made available for free without any solicitation (you can buy it on amazon.com, but the free version linked to is legit). One of the best pieces of humorous sci-fi you'll ever read.

And, of course, you should raid gutenberg.org.

I downloaded the entire Sherlock Holmes library for free, which is great for brief escape reading. I need to find some other old short story collections or serials for further pulp options.

search amazon. They had a couple I downloaded for the pc version of Kindle. One was "Little Fuzzy" by H Beam Piper. Cute/fun story. They also had "Triplanetary" by E E Doc Smith if you like old style pulp science fiction.

Life on the Mississippi, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court, short stories of Mark Twain, works of Edgar Allan Poe, Adventures and Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes in particular, The Moonstone, Dracula, The War of the Worlds. Plus there's always Moby Dick and the Illiad if you get ambitious :ramen:

I looked through the classic section and started out with "A Princess of Mars" and assuming I like it as much as I think I will there's many more of the John Carter books available as well. Beyond that there's of course Frankenstein Jekyll and Hyde and so forth which are available. I've also downloaded five or six promising looking your books and Storm's first book.

I'll definatly have to check out the Gutenberg side, but I really am thinking more about newer works that might escape my notice. Whenever I come across an old classic that I want to read that will speak for itself, it's the stuff I haven't heard of but I'm curious about.

it's a very cheap low-end tablet, not a fire or anything like that. Also, apparently not as much memory as I had thought so I need to dial back my download urge. I had assumed text documents like e-books would be kind to the memory storage but I might have thought wrong.

You'll have to dial back on things like PDFs, especially those with pictures, but even a low end device should have enough memory for hundreds or thousands of books. Do you know what formats your tablet/reader can handle?
