We have new chat software installed on the board, which emulates the chat system Facebook uses. You can see it at the bottom of your screen. Using it is simple: FIRST> This is your chat bar: As you can see, the green dot indicates that you are available for chat. The number in parentheses tells you who is online and available for chat. NEXT> To chat with someone, simply select them from the menu: A chat window will open, and you can begin chatting. If you need to change options, or make yourself unavailable for chat, simply click the options gear in the upper right hand corner of the box: NEXT> If, instead, you want to chat with more than one person at once, you can do so in the chat room, which is, of course, called CAHT! To access it, simply click the "people" icon, located next to the chat indicator, and then select the available room, titled "CAHT!" like so: NEXT> Once you click on the CAHT! room, you will see this window. As you can see, the left hand side is for chatting, while the right pane will tell you who is currently in the chat room. If you wish to make this chat room window pop out, simply click the symbol with the box and arrow. To exit, select the arrow with the door symbol, and to check your options, select the options gear on the right side of the pane. NEXT> If you wish to not see the chat bar at the bottom of the screen, simply click the "Hide Chat" slider, and the box will close. If you have any questions, this is the thread to ask.
Has anybody else posted in the main CAHT room yet? If so, that means you only see what's posted when you're logged into the room. Which is understandable -- it's how IRC and just about every other platform work -- but with a smaller user base, that will probably make it a little harder to get conversations going.
Also, existing conversations disappear when I switch computers. So it's not what was posted while my account was logged on, but while that instance of my browser was connected to WF. (I guess I should have been able to preidct that, but I wasn't.)
[Insert obligatory bitching and moaning here.] Nah, actually, I kinda like it. Although it's going to be tough to carry the persona over into the chat. I have this annoying tendency to be witty and personable. Easy enough to fake otherwise in a post, harder to do in chat.
Is there a reason to do away with the shoutout box on the front page because we have real chat now? No need to call it caht, but I though it was fun for what it did. And the functions are sufficiently different that I don't think they'd get in each others' way.
This came up in another thread, and I'm not sure of the answer. Does caht work on the mobile site? I don't see it on my phone, but I may have turned it off and forgotten.
Yeah, I don't have the chat thing any more either. It used to look like the image in post #1, but now it looks like the image in @gul 's post.
It just showed up for the first time on my phone. It's never been there before. And I know I'm not imaging it because it's there right now. To the bottom right of the screen where the box is to enter a post on here. Its always been there on the laptop. Was it enabled, or did a setting need to be changed in the forum software?
I went into the control panel for the chat system and refreshed it. I think in the act of clearing the cache and forcing it to restart, it actually began working on mobile like it was supposed to. So to amend my previous statement, it was supposed to be running on mobile devices, and now it seems to be doing so. Is your problem still there, @gul?
Yeah, but maybe if I log out, flush, etc. I don't particularly care for chat, so not a big deal, I was asking for the sake of other people.
