Tonight, 7:00 pm. It's the hottest ticket in Oklahoma! Dickynoo? Garamet? Lietard? For those who don't keep up with Oklahoma politics, this whole thing was provoked by our idiot state legislature, overrun by evangelicals and other assorted fundies who either don't understand or don't care about the concept of separation of church & state. They allowed a monument of the Ten Commandments to be placed on government property (seen below). A decision that was just upheld by a district judge on Friday, after every Okie's favorite boogeymen, the ACLU, sued: You can read more about the history of the monument here, if you're so inclined: http://www.tulsaworld.com/news/capi...cle_e3d6f5d1-cf10-5698-9220-1e1c3fbaf52e.html So as a consequence, alternative groups started demanding equal time, and under the law they can't be denied. Because freedom of religion means freedom for all, a concept our state doofuses can't comprehend. So here comes the freak show, rolling in to panic our ass-backward state. First there was the Satan statue: Notice that nobody at our joke of a local paper was willing to put their name on this embarrassment of an "editorial." Then the Hindus said, "can we come over and play?" Well, as you can imagine, this has gotten all of Oklahoma's fundie population in a tizzy. I'm sure the Southern Baptists, Freewill Baptists & Methodists are up in arms, but our Catholics are especially outraged. You have to understand, the churches may hysterically overreact to things like this, but secretly they love it, they use it as a call to arms, it's the perfect recruitment tool. Preachers all across the state get to feel like they're Father Merrin battling Pazuzu. There be demons running all through the Sooner State! Good time folks, good times. This is what the great state of Oklahoma is spending it's time and resources on. The education system is falling apart, common core was repealed with no backup plan to replace it, the public school systems are fighting against a state A-F rating system because it's exposing how many failing schools there are in the state. 1/3 of 4th graders can't pass the language arts/reading skills test in order to pass to the 5th grade. Hell, Tulsa Public Schools can't even recruit enough teachers to fill all their classrooms, they began the year with something like 200 position vacancies! But we're gonna battle those demons! Damn straight! Demons be gone! So the next time flow or shootER makes a snide comment about eastern Oklahoma, just remember. It was the OKC boys and their cronies (aided by one idiot representative and his family from Broken Arrow) who brought us this fiasco.
Cue the "I only complain about it when the non-Christians respond, but I'm going to say I object to it all just to seem evenhanded" posts...
I haven't spent much time in OKC so I can't speak on that. But I lived in Tulsa for 3 years... and it was fucking awful. Couldn't wait to leave. They have a nice zoo, that is about the best thing I can say about the place.
Just put up a new Oklahoma State Flag at the entrance to Windmill Park. Very fortunate to be living in Oklahoma.
Unfortunately I won't be in attendance. I wonder what Async would do if they tried the reverse-exorcism on him?
This is a crazy thread. The flashlight thinks we're not up on 'tis even though I've posted a few threads covering the same ground. And for some reason, he's flipped personas again, not sobbing about how this oppresses Christians.
