I read an article yesterday (Salon?) about how the Ferguson PD is still withholding reports related to the shooting that they're legally obligated to release thanks to "Sunshine" laws. Seems odd they'd break the law to conceal information about what's allegedly an open and shut, completely justified shooting.

What started the original riots was the story that a police dog pissed on the memorial, followed by a cop driving through the memorial. True or not, that the city failed to properly handle the PR disaster from the first time, indicates that they're incapable of handling things.

How should they handle it? When people already have their mind made up they will believe what they want to believe anyway. You can't disprove what never happened.

I hope the government agencies in Ferguson are better at keeping track of these types than the IRS is at keeping track of emails.

You issue an apology and say you'll "get to the bottom of the matter." The truth of what happened is less important than what people believe happened. If they believe something happened, and your first response is to deny it happened, you're in trouble. If, instead, your first response is to sound like you accept the possibility that what they believe is true, you've got a lot more credibility with them when you come back and tell them that they were mistaken.

I don't care if the shooting of the kid was justified or not, having the police dog piss on memorials to the kid, followed by having a police car drive through it is a dick move. Any fool should know that doing that would cause a riot. And I say this, knowing full well that when I get to California, I am going to piss on Nixon's grave.
