Those medical scooters are really beginning to piss me off. They certainly have legitimate uses (i.e., the elderly or people with walking impairments) but increasingly they're being used by fatass motherfuckers who can't walk simply because they're fatass motherfuckers.
The position you've spelled out over a whole series of posts is not the one you claimed in that single post. The frog already spelled out where you go wrong so I won't bother to repeat it.
Which just shows how ignorant those people are. There are ridiculous versions of libertarianism, as there are ridiculous versions of any philosophy. If you have to point at the most ridiculous varieties of a philosophy in order to feel superior and convince yourself you are right in rejecting that outlook, you must not have a very strong case. Libertarianism can be a very rational philosophy. It's merely a case of having a serious enough understanding of what it implies, so that you avoid the bumper-sticker variety that you and so many others here on Wordforge seem to think is the only variety. And that some of the less rigorous thinkers here espouse as well, it must be admitted...
Only for the lulz. We all know better than to think anything you say here is what you actually think. And if we hadn't figured it out long since, you have said so explicitly often enough that anyone who debates with you on anything deserves whatever they get. But I admit to being curious sometimes about why you go to such lengths to make sure no one takes you seriously, or actually cares about what you post. Not that I expect you to explain it, and not that I would believe it was a truthful explanation if you did do it, but I still find it curious.
That's why he sometimes makes half decent entertainment. I'm really hoping though that he's not really the failed character he projects.
Walmart dropped the star 7 years ago. Even then that was only on the logo, not print, the actual name in print was Wal-Mart. However since 2008 it's even dropped the dash and has been dba Walmart. So the real question is, how many more years before Paladin catches on?
Lonely Squire's obvious disregard for Those Undesirables on That Side of the Tracks aside, there is something to be said of the dependence on government aid and the longer one stays in the system, the longer it is to feel motivation to do more. I've seen it in my mom, my uncles and aunts, and even within the Navy where folks wonder how others do it on the outside when they themselves were fairly old before enlisting. It's one of the motivators to get the hell out myself, honestly. I can't understand how having every part of your life regulated is worth it for any amount of money.
If you want to get out of the Navy check out the local water district. There are several technician level jobs which start around $15. Get your foot in the door and then they promote from with in so in a year or two you can probably be making $60k. It is like how Edward Snowden did it. He got a job as a security guard for near minimum wage but with in a year he was making $150k even though he had no degree and just some Microsoft network certificate.
Anna, perhaps if the government didn't intentionally incentivize people to stay on the teat I'd modify my position. Perhaps it's human nature the so many take the bait? And I dont care what side of the tracks people are from. If they follow the rules and fend for themselves I support them completely.
I don't even think it's that simple. Most minimum wage jobs, especially in California, barely pay enough to get to the job. If I'd had a licence prior to joining the Navy, I would have worked two jobs to make ends meet. Add in how crazy expensive child care is (most folks around here are paying upwards of 1200 a month, in addition to late fees that military members run into often due to schedule conflicts) and it makes more sense to stay on the dole and spend more time with the kids. Of course, if anyone suggests government programs to help lower child care costs or raising minimum wage, then conservatives bitch about "THE GUBMINT IS STEALING MAH MONEHS" anyway. We can't win. Except very few people succeed entirely on their own or without some kind of support system. I think we both agree that just handing out money is not the best solution. But neither is the other extreme of "Fuck you, I got mine, now get yours." We should be supporting welfare-to-work programs that both sides cut during economic downturns. We should be supporting affordable childcare programs so that families don't have to rely on one breadwinner like what Dinner mentioned.
I have no issue with the hand up, not hand out philosophy. I just don't like that I bust my ass running two businesses while others feel they're entitled to have others pay thier way from cradle to grave. Not everyone deserves a cellphone and cable tv, for instance.
Gotta disagree somewhat on the phone. No, no one's entitled to a phone, but that's a basic communication tool that no one is gonna get hired without. But you won't die if you get a cheap or older model. Programs do exist to get phones to those that can't afford them now anyway. As for cable, anyone that's under fifty years old paying for that is a moron. I'll pay full price for Internet for the same reason Paladin pays for plastic bags in the county he lives in that has banned free ones in stores.
I'm pretty excited to see where Obama's Childcare reforms go. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/02/01/obama-childcare-proposal_n_6586644.html In the short term, I'd be happy with just expanding the max for Childcare FSAs. I think it's 5k a year? We currently spend 1100 a month. When we have a second child that will go to 2500 a month (infants are 1500, but Isaac'll be 3 so go down to 1000).
Honestly, there should be free child care at every public school. Hell, even bid it out on a per child basis so that if churches or other groups or even individuals want to make a go at it they should be allowed. Think of it like a day care voucher and competition will help improve both cost and quality of care.
Did they have fatmobiles a few decades ago in stores? Maybe they did but I don't remember. So how did the handicapped shop?
I prefer the old school terminology "crippled". They used paddle boards if their arms were still working.
Shopping at wal mart is supporting the Chinese military industrial complex, and you know how I feel about the Chicoms..
