Okay, so in preparation for the re-reboot, and "Civil War", I re-watched the first Raimi flick, and that still holds up. Then, I just got done with "The Amazing Spider-Man". No longer comparing it to the Raimis, nor having a chip on my shoulder about Sony doing it for a cynical cash grab, I was able to let it be its own thing, and I liked it a lot better. I think I still prefer the Raimi style, but the first Webb film definitely looks more like the comics. Especially the 70's & 80's era I grew up on. And Andrew Garfield did a damned good job. I never faulted him anyway. Still don't know where to put it on a star scale yet though. Maybe after this whole marathon is done Up next, "Amazing Spider-Man 2".
Damn, but those are long.. Okay, screw stars, I'll rank 'em on a scale. 1. Spider-Man 2 2. The Amazing Spider-Man 3. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 4. Spider-Man 5. Spider-Man 3
Consider it done. 1. Spider-Man 2 2. The Amazing Spider-Man 3. Spider-Man 4. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 5. Spider-Man 3
They all suck. I liked the Raimi films when they came out but they don't hold up on repeat viewings. The problem isn't with the movies themselves, it's with the character. Spider-Man just isn't interesting.
Emma Stone was great casting for Gwen. I was disturbed that Raimi substituted MJ for Gwen in his films, then cast someone I didn't find attractive. I don't really like the new guy as Pete. McGuire was a shade better. Except when he was dancing.
I have to disagree. I liked the Raimi films much more than the Webb versions, with ASM2 being one of the worst superhero films of the modern era.
Not seen ASM, but ASM2 wasn't brilliant, and I'd stick it behind all the Raimi movies. Garfield made a great Spiderman, better than Maguire, but the plot wasn't brilliant and Fox was wasted as playing a character who was Dwayne Dibbly from Red Dwarf, but then given electric powers. It was a pity, as there was a core of a good movie there, but wasted as it was designed to kick off new movies rather than stand by itself and spin things off it.
