If Piers Morgan wants to use Ali's stance on interracial marriage as a slam against him, he'd be slamming 80 percent of Amricans of all races. NO ONE was supportive in interracial marriage when it was legalized and there were states that had laws against on the books well into the 21st century. Morgan can go suck a dick.
Ali wasn't disloyal. He was just smart enough not to go and become cannon fodder for the Vietcong like so many young black males were in the beginning of that conflict. I doubt there is anybody outside America that will criticise Ali for refusing to fight in Vietnam. It was and remains a bullshit war that achieved fuck all for the US and cost the lives of hundreds of thousands of American soldiers.

One little thing - most of the actual by-god combat troops were white. Whites thus died at a higher rate than black military members. In Iraq it was like this too - blacks are about 1/3 of the army but only about 1/4 or 1/5 of the fatalities. The stats are available. Granted it's a tragedy to lose any military member - but blacks did not statistically face more danger than anyone else - as a matter of fact they faced less. Even today hard-core gun toting grunts and aircraft pilots (dangerous 24/7 even in peacetime) are made up of mostly whites & hispanics. Blacks however make up the majority of "support" jobs like supply, clerical, food services, things like that. All jobs are important though or the positions wouldn't exist.
Yeah, but whites weren't treated as second class citizens, either. I don't blame him for not jumping at the bit to fight for America when America just saw him as a lowly negro, nor any other minority.
The bigger question is whether anyone in Vietnam would have been comfortable sharing a foxhole with a Muslim. Plus, the Vietnamese eat a fuck ton of pork.
I don't blame him either. WWII was a prime example. During surrender times the fucking GERMAN OFFICERS were treated like classy intriguing guests on the troop trains while fucking black soldiers were segregated and treated like crap for the most part. Talk about a slap in the face! Like Ali said..."no Viet Cong ever called me a nigger!"
One of the Hollywood USO entertainers freaked out when a bunch of Nazi soldiers were put in the front row at her concert (it was easier to keep an eye on them there). They were removed at the star's insistence. I can't remember who it was, though.
For one the soldiers ate C-Rations not Vietnamese food unless they chose to. Bringing things up to modern times, I have served under, with, and over Muslims during my military time, and still do. I never had a problem with any of them. And the army now has Kosher MRE's which fit the Muslim requirements too. I had a Muslim and a Jew on my crew. The Muslim was on-point and a pleasure to lead. The Jew was "tore up from the floor up" and pretty much an oxygen thief.
The problem with having Muslims in our military is that anything we occupy would automatically become Muslim land - for eternity. Had Ali fought and helped recapture Hue, you can bet some Al Qaeda assholes in Saudi Arabia or Yemen would be claiming Hue as Muslim territory because Ali liberated it.

That isn't only a Muslim belief. Ever heard the joke about the American, Russian, and two Serbian astronauts exploring the moon? The American says "the moon is America. Look at those plains. Those are just like the great plains of America". The Russian says "no the moon is Russian. Look at those mountains. Those are just like the mountains in Russia'.
