I've been watching TNG a lot lately on Netflix and it looks so much better. I might end up buying the blue ray some day. One thing I wish they would have done is just given Troi a regular uniform. Don't get me wrong, I like T&A as much as anyone, but I actually like the uniform on her better. The colors look a lot better.
dude... believably changing a main character's uniform isn't even a ballgame on the same planet as redoing 30 year old VFX and cleaning up the material. but yes, they did well there. close to the once-in-a-century job the did remastering the bond movies for which they probably had original film prints.
While you are going thru the series, check out the old TNG review thread! http://wordforge.net/index.php?threads/star-trek-tng-reviews-from-start-to-finish.71233/
^^Which makes it harder to have her wear it from go, as it's a plot point when she gets the uniform in a later episode.
Here's a difference between TOS & TNG: Shatner's Kirk had a bevy of super hot ladies. Stewart was reduced to writing memo's titled "Cpt. Picard needs to get laid!"
In regard to the OP, I've also checked out the remastered TNG on Netflix and it does look really good. I got the S1 Blue Ray set as a Christmas gift several years ago, but I haven't bothered to watch it because, you know, Season 1.
Regarding Troi, I find her very obvious wig in the early seasons to be a bigger distraction than her skintight catsuits. I remember being a really young kid....maybe no older than seven....seeing her curls and wanting them for myself. It wasn't till I got a HD TV that I realized it wasn't all hers (plus, being a black chick that wore weaves on occasion before I embraced the good hair I was born with, I can tell even when it's not that glaringly obvious ).
Does BBC-America show any of the remastered TNG episodes? MeTV shows remastered TOS episodes. At first, I didn't like remastering as I'd felt TOS should be left alone. But I've come to appreciate & like alot of the TOS remastering. Some episodes needed it badly, like "MIRI", "TOMORROW IS YESTERDAY", & "ASSIGNMENT: EARTH". The literal globes, no doubt Rand-McNally, used on TOS were ridiculous, though understandable why they had to do that back in the late '60s. From what I remember & see, TNG doesn't strike me as needing as much remastering as TOS does. RE: Remastering in general - When this is done, I hope the originals aren't destroyed &/or put on the deletion list. Like George Lucass's remastering of the end of ROTJ! Replacing the late Sebastian Shaw with Mannequin Skywalker
No, BBC America show the unmodified versions as far as I can tell. TNG on Netflix is looks a whole lot better.
