And we changed the regime. Saddam fired on a US aircraft (just about every day). That voided the cease fire. The question was whether we would resume hostilities. We did. His sons died in a shootout with us, and he was hung by the neck until dead. Now Iraq is run by a British educated engineer.
Nothing in the report that we already didn't know - unless you're deluded and thought there really was a significant threat from Saddam. But nice to have it all made official and hopefully will lead to Blair being tried for war crimes. Not holding my breath on it happening though.
It should also be noted that sanctions against Iraq were killing at least 30,000 Iraqis a year. Say what you will about the justi What war crimes did the British commit?
The death of at least 150,000 civilians as a result of the unjustified invasion of Iraq, and the chaos caused by the vacuum of power left after Saddam was deposed because Bush and Blair had no idea what to do with Iraq after the war. Not to mention countless injured civilians, the enormous displacement of the population and creation of refugees etc.
We aren't responsible for Iraqis killing Iraqis after the invasion was over. Nor is any nation endlessly obligated to babysit a country they invade. "You break it you buy it" is a neet slogan for a retailer but even though Colin Powell liked to say it, it hardly makes good policy.
