I'm guessing that the old guy had no actual intention (though he did have the capability) of using deadly force. He was betting that the would-be thief would get on the ground, but that was sure a lot more difficult than he figured it would be. Not everyone scares easily. Matter-of-fact one of my army peers (dead now sadly) was at a convenience store once about to gas up his car and two guys in a car rolled up, showed a gun and said "get away from the car! Don't move!" in an obvious attempt to car jack him. He said (he was very stubborn & cantankerous 24/7 BTW) "fuck you. Come and try to take it! Let's go fuckers!" They backed down & drove off, playing it safe. Ironically years later my buddy took another soldier's truck at gunpoint during Iraq 2003, but it was actually necessary when you got the full story behind why he did it.

I don't golf, but I have indeed hooked up golfers (fellow instructors no longer in the army) with free tickets when I was still in the army. Yeah this place shuts down for all intents & purposes during the masters. The schools even have their "spring break" during the masters because many families rent out their homes to golf fans and use that money to go on vacation.

Feel free to pm me. Doesnt need to be free (i'll compensate). Practice tickets, tournament days, whatever. Augusta is the second most sacred place to golfers, and since i live less than two hours from the top pilgramage, Masters is on my list.

No, I won't take compensation. But sure if I can get some, I will hook you up. That said procedures & stipulations change here at the post now and then (that's the nature of the government beast) and at the masters itself, but I'll check into it in a few months when they start gearing up for it. That said REMIND ME or I might forget. Yeah we get a shitload of golf fans from around the world and sadly we have criminal shit bags around here that scam people & sell fake tickets and so on to these people. It pisses me off to no end. But if they get caught the "long arm of the law" comes down on them like a ton of bricks! The last thing you want to do is give visitors a bad taste in their mouth by getting ripped off especially after sinking thousands of dollars into travel, hotels, etc.etc. As the crow flies I live about seven miles from the place. My son goes to college right next to it. I would like to see it just because the flowers & landscaping are incredible. Of course they have huge fences around it so you can't see inside. :(

What, a black guy can't own a set of golf clubs? You think because a black guy has golf clubs that he stole them?

@oldfella1962 - I recall you defending the right of a vigilante to chase after someone in a subway, track him down and shoot him. Your stance here is bewildering, given that.

You missed my point. I didn't bring up the term "black"; you decided to read more into my post than was there.

In our society, on average, someone who is white and relatively wealthy tends to be able to navigate the judicial system much more successfully. We can infer he is relatively wealthy because he purchased an expensive set of golf clubs. Golf also tends to be a hobby of the more well-to-do (I say hobby, because it's not a sport).

Therefore, all that's remaining is whether he is white or not. If he is white, he will likely get away with brandishing his firearm. If he is not white (e.g. black, brown, yellow, purple, etc.) his chances of successfully fighting any potential charges are lower.

NEVER, EVER use a firearm after the fact. Wait patiently and bide your time. Then, strike making the event seem as if the perp had a real bad accident. Of course, stealing golf clubs really doesn't rate right up there with car theft. Call your insurance company and make a claim. And they SHOULD be insured.

Not really - the guy in the subway physically attacked the old man who shot him. Stealing (other than strong arm robbery, mugging, etc) doesn't put anyone in physical harm.

Liberals want retired officers to have guns? Why are retired officers special?

The golfer didn't shoot anyone. Is pointing a gun at a thief bad form (assuming this is after the crime)? What about a murderer a day after the crime? At what level of crime do you recommend accosting the criminal with your weapon drawn?

I'm guessing gunforge is ok pointing a gun at anyone committing theft during the act. Did I guess wrong?

here's what happened when a guy stole a gun from from a soldier returning home from work early here in Augusta. :D Guy steals your guns and still has your guns and could (duh) shoot you with said guns, hilarity ensues! I guess this little angel was on his way to medical school & find the cure for cancer, but captain hardass put the kaibosh on that!

I wouldn't unless the guy was armed, or otherwise a threat to me or my family. Nobody likes to feel like they are cornered or forced to defend themselves or otherwise be put in a desperate situation. It only takes a second to aim & fire if you really need to, so why risk an accident?

So you come on a guy who's jimmying your car door. You leave your gun in your pocket and just shake your fist at him? Well done.

A dude I knew in the Air Force caught a kid (teenager) bent down in his front seat trying to steal his car radio. He waited until the kid exited the car, snatched the radio back & then knocked his ass silly then drove off.

I can't envision a situation where I would ever come on a guy who's jimmying anything. Call me old fashioned I guess.
