Ya think? A bit of an understatement.... I would love to have been on that flight. For real, no joke. I would love to have had a window seat to that.
The fairing and the thrust reverser is gone, but the thrust-producing part of the engine is still operating. Definitely not a good thing, but probably looks worse than it is.
It's probably bee damage. If you zoom in you can see their honeycomb structure on what remains of the inner fairing.
Yep! Huge, huge fucking bees too. I blame global warming and that earthquake in Italy. BTW did you know that it's against the law to mail live bees to Italy? Also banned are human hair & Barbie dolls. The terrorists have won.
Yeah, but you don't know what else is going to go wrong, and you can't exactly pull over at 30K and give the engine a good once over.
Superficial flak damage. Continue the mission, land at Iwo on the return leg if you can't make Saipan.
Take a seat in the dunce corner, asshammer. But yeah, that's a helluva part to just fall off of a plane.
Why would you be mailing bees and human hair to Italy? Are you some kind of international serial killer?
I've got no desire to see the Sully movie (studied it to death back to front and inside out at university), but that man is damn worthy of respect for what he pulled off.
A pilot with real glider skills would have continued with the flight to Charlotte, relying on thermals and ridge lift from the Appalachians.
You don't understand. Pilot Dayton () not only would've landed the aircraft in the river, he would've taken off from the river as well.
