It is getting old. I am not saying we forget about it, but do we have to parade out all the terror propaganda every Fucking year? While we are remembering all of the people who died shouldn't we remember that 15 years and countless deaths later not one of the victims has come back or has things gotten better due to our perpetual war? Perhaps we should start calling it Muslims suck day? We remember the dead, but we completely forget why they died. Maybe in another 15 years we will grow up?
The only people who commemorate it now, in that almost celebratory way, are those hell bent on staying on the grief or jingoism bandwagons, and they are almost always people who are neither personally connected to the event nor New Yorkers. For those directly impacted it is a time now of quiet introspection. Sure, by all means have a tasteful ceremony in NYC and DC on the day, but the rest isn't necessary IMO.
I've always seen "never forget" as a call for vengeance. It is jingoistic nationalism favored by Trump and LePen style politicians.
How many years did we commemorate the attack on Pearl Harbor? And most of those victims were military.
As an aside to this, it seems we learned nothing from that shit, either. After the bombing, America turned it's back to its Japanese citizens and they all became "the enemy." We know how that turned out for them. My high school posts all the class photos of the school going back to its founding in 1896. About a third of the class was Japanese in 1942 and they completely disappear the following year.
In fairness, scumbags Trump and @Dinner aside, there has not been systematic discrimination against Muslims in the US since 9/11, and that's a positive that differentiates it from the aftermath of Pearl Harbour. But the exploitation of tragic events for purposes of militarism will continue, I fear.
Ash, so now simply deciding national immigration quotas is "racism". Yeah, duck off with that. No one has a right to immigrate and each country has the inalienable right to decide who they want to let in and who they do not. Terrorism concerns are legitimate and all Muslims should be banned as long as Islam remains the primary source of terrorism in the world. You can cry, hold your breath, and name call all you want but that should not effect anything in a rational world.
Don't be an idiot. You are a racist, that's a simple and obvious fact. That does not necessarily mean that every policy you support is racist, nor does it mean that everything you do is the basis for calling you a racist. I'm sure you take a crap in the morning. Taking a crap does not make you a racist. Most people taking craps aren't racist, but you do not suddenly become not racist because you shit all over the place.
Exactly this. By all means commemorate the day; it should be commemorated. But if you're going on and on about it, you're either a phony as hell asshole, or you're trying to sell me something, which make you an asshole of a different sort.
