New York Post story Donald Trump’s media summit was a ‘f—ing firing squad’ Donald Trump scolded media big shots during an off-the-record Trump Tower sitdown on Monday, sources told The Post. “It was like a f–ing firing squad,” one source said of the encounter. “Trump started with [CNN chief] Jeff Zucker and said ‘I hate your network, everyone at CNN is a liar and you should be ashamed,’ ” the source said. “The meeting was a total disaster. The TV execs and anchors went in there thinking they would be discussing the access they would get to the Trump administration, but instead they got a Trump-style dressing down,” the source added. A second source confirmed the fireworks. “The meeting took place in a big board room and there were about 30 or 40 people, including the big news anchors from all the networks,” the other source said. “Trump kept saying, ‘We’re in a room of liars, the deceitful dishonest media who got it all wrong.’ He addressed everyone in the room calling the media dishonest, deceitful liars. He called out Jeff Zucker by name and said everyone at CNN was a liar, and CNN was [a] network of liars,” the source said. “Trump didn’t say [NBC reporter] Katy Tur by name, but talked about an NBC female correspondent who got it wrong, then he referred to a horrible network correspondent who cried when Hillary lost who hosted a debate – which was Martha Raddatz who was also in the room.” The stunned reporters tried to get a word in edgewise to discuss access to a Trump Administration. “[CBS Good Morning co-host Gayle] King did not stand up, but asked some question, ‘How do you propose we the media work with you?’ Chuck Todd asked some pretty pointed questions. David Muir asked ‘How are you going to cope living in DC while your family is in NYC? It was a horrible meeting.” Trump spokeswoman Kellyanne Conway told reporters the gathering went well. “Excellent meetings with the top executives of the major networks,” she said during a gaggle in the lobby of Trump Tower. “Pretty unprecedented meeting we put together in two days.”
Not a disaster at all, a necessary first step towards addressing what 45.5% of Americans identified as the greatest threat to our democracy - the media. How Journalism Turns Into Propaganda Real journalism is dangerous for elites, which is why we have so little of it. “They’ve decided you’re to go into journalism. It’s a great honor. We have to strengthen the press. It’s full of bourgeoise elements and reactionaries. We don’t send just anyone there.” —In the screenplay “Angi Vera,” newspaper editor and Communist Party hack Anna Trajan speaks to her young protégé, groomed to destroy anyone standing in the way of the party’s narrative. President-elect Donald Trump’s win proved how useless is the current state of journalism for investigating and conveying real news about real people. And that’s putting it kindly. Not only were mainstream journalists blind to the pain of so many in the country—particularly the long-neglected Rust Belt voters who showed up in droves to elect Trump—but they shamelessly cheered Hillary Clinton’s campaign and smeared all Trump voters while doing so. The quote above, from an old foreign film, gives us a glimpse into how power elites seek to control the media and subvert objective journalism. I’ll elaborate on that below. But the high level of collusion we see today between Democrat power elites and the media goes back a long time. The collusion continues post-election, as the media gives lopsided coverage to angry anti-Trump protests organized by Moveon.org, which are stirring up calls for violence. So it’s high time we analyze more closely the relationship between the media and power elites. To do that, we need to look at how and why elites conscript journalists, and why journalists can’t resist the bait. The enticements come as access, privilege, prestige, fame, influence, and very high salaries for those in the limelight. Of course to the left, having the American media turn into imitations of Tass and Pravda is considered a good thing.
The irony of a partisan troll, who posts from sensationalist tabloids like the Daily Mail and Daily Express, posting about the use of journalism as propaganda.
The article isn't talking about using journalism as propaganda. It's saying American journalism has become Democrat propaganda. As is often said, they're not journalists, they're DNC operatives with bylines.
There's a serious angle here, of course, which is that Trump is laying the groundwork for an official state press, much like his buddy Putin has in Russia Today. Note gturner's claim that people opposing Trump on this want a state controlled media. That's his way of confirming that Trump plans to control the media. Textbook authoritarianism. And idiots like Ramen giggle about it.
They are a national security threat and must be dealt with. I fully support executing members of the press if they look at President Trump the wrong way.
It's not a restriction. The airwaves belong to the public. Other companies will be given the frequency slots and nobody will ever miss ABC, NBC, CBS, or PBS.
These organizations can collectively pwn this administration if they pull their shit together. I'm not sure this type of behavior is in Trump's favor.
This administration is going to be a shit show. If wanna be Woodward and Bernsteins can't jockey for access and play the leak game with these people they don't deserve to call themselves journalists. So yeah, we're probably looking at Pravda in a couple years.
Um, that's what they just tried to do for the past six months. Instead it blew up in their faces and they are probably the most responsible for putting him in the White House. They keep trying to act like they have the trust and confidence levels that Walter Cronkite had, but polls show they're ranking below used car salesmen. People actively hate the lying press. They are the establishment that needs to be purged.
How soon we forget. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.wa...o-media-in-history/?client=ms-android-samsung
@gul: is he building foundation for staterun press? Or did he merely let the press know he was not going to let them show bias when they are supposed to be reporting facts and news, not opinions?
State run news media. I also heard Trump will be disbanding the buggy whip conditioner staff as well.
The former. The press is not obligated to use his interpretation of the facts. That's the whole meaning behind a free press. So when he goes after them, he is essentially saying that they need to report things according to his perspective. It is highly disturbing for him to take this approach.
Except the press was (1) objectively wrong on its projection of the election and (2) unarguably biased against one candidate.
Ha ha. Alec Baldwin's impersonations are so spot on. I would've have thought you'd like SNL. When Trump's real videos start coming out I'm going to be disappointed.
1) yeah, they got it wrong. Is that illegal? 2) yes, they clearly favored Trump, tell me something I don't know. Is that illegal?
